Yes, the fact is this dog was not taken care of and that is sad and if indeed it was the owners then shame on them and they don't deserve him, on the other hand, perhaps he has been lost for awhile. I guess its just better to try and find out first because if it were your dog that was lost and no one tried to at least find you, I'm sure you nor anyone would like that. Just my opinion. In either case, bless you for taking him in and getting him cleaned up. He is adorable for sure and deserves to either go back to a family that loved him, or a new family that will love him. Good luck.

I was wondering if you have tried to find out if he has a chip? I would think a vet or even the pound would check?

To be honest I dont think he has been lost for a long time. The town he was found in is not very big and he was very well fed. I really think he has been being fed etc just not cared for otherwise.
I want to find his owner if he is lost BUT not if he has been with them all of this time. He is so neglected. If I met them I would probably lose it on them.
Being lost is another thing altogether.I dont want to see him sad or missing anyone.
*sigh* I will post an after pix ( do not laugh at him, I really am not a groomer at all but had to get that stinkly matted hair off)The before pic are on my daughters camera and she is sleeping
You are such an Angel, and Bless his little heart, his eyes are so bad, he probably was running around blind, with all the crust that had been on them. I can't imagine how scared he must of been, and he was so lucky he did not get hit by a car.,I bet he feel like a little King to be clean, be able to see, and have you to give him lots of TLC which it looks as if he has never had any. I would also try to find the owners, and ask them if you could re home him, as it is obvious he has been very neglected for a very long time. Thank the Lord for you and your son, you are tops in my book!! I would hate it if he truly has been so neglected and you found the people and they wanted him back, and then made him be an outside dog again, I pray that is not the case, I just pray he was lost for so long, and that is why he was found in such poor condition. I just can't thank you enough for all you have done for him, he is so lucky that you stopped for him, it probably saved his life,

Big Hugs, and Many Blessings!!!!!!

Bless your heart. God put you in the right place at the right time. That poor little guy must have been terrified. I can't imagine how painful it must have been for him to walk with those long nails. You and your sons have done a wonderful thing. Hope the trip to the vet goes well. God bless you and your sons. Patty

Awwwww I am in love with this sweet little soul!!! Bless your heart! I've been trying to catch up on this thread and looked for pictures! He looks like a little ole man in that sweater!
I swear, I'd be the crazy dog lady if I lived "alone" (no hubby!) cause I would keep em all! But of course, not if I were able to find his owners....
You know, I got my first Maltese because I found a little one in our neighborhood - just dirty and matted, etc. I took her in and immediately put her in the bath!! I fell in love with her during the hour or so that I had her....she ended up being my next door neighbors dog and I didn't even know! So I had to give her up but still felt bad that she was not kept up
Anyway, for xmas my hubby got me my very own maltese!! And THEN I started research....after the fact....but he is still a cutie pie! Just a 12 lb cutie pie!! LOL!

I just want to congratulate you. It takes a very big person to do what you have done or this little guy. You are a great example to all of us. I just hope that if I'm ever in a similar situation, I too can help an innocent lost pet.

As for the cut, great job. He looks wonderful!

YOU did a wonderful job with him. He is a cutie, I am going to sa again you are his guardian angel.
As for judging, not judging, whatever his owner could be an elderly person that can not take care of him properly. (Just a thought)

you did the best thing you could for the poor pup. Maybe the story is different from what you think and some family is still frantic. Perhaps they were travelling thru and the dog got away, they searched but had to give up after a while? Is he microchipped? Please keep looking for the guardians. There is always more than one reason for such results .... this is such a sad story. I hope you find someone to give him a good home. And bless your heart for taking him off the road and cleaning him up. Please keep us posted.

LOL.. YOu dont see the LONG hunks of hair I left LOL... I left his ears even though my son wanted me to cut them too. I told him I wanted to leave the guy with some dignity.
He said" Mom , His dignity left a long time ago... :-( "
I noticed he kept walking back intot he bedroom and then out he did this several times. I called ot him but he didnt respond( I think he may be hard of hearing) any way , he jsut now came in and tried to jump onto the bed with me, It is a very tall double pillow top bed so he didnt make it but, I lifted him on and he is laying in my lap.The first signs of affection he has given. He has a LONG tongue too LOL

He sounds like he is super sweet and loving!! Can you tell yet if he seems to be house-broken?

I have not really let him wander too much but he hasnt went in the house that I know of. I have let him out and he goes to this tall blade of grass and pees then walks around it. I will have to leave that tall blade of grass for him to pee pee on.

Ok I think I found the owner.... It is a 50 year old lady. She is not happy about his hair cut :-( I know it looks ugly but geez, he couldnt even walk.
They are coming over to see if it is hom. He is 15 years old! He had to have been kept outside too as he had years worth of weeds, sticks and etc. The lady was not there but her daughter was, I got their number from the animal control.
wish him and me luck
