| HELP Yorkie found now what???? GRRRRRRR and :-( Today I was traveling home on a very busy highway about 15 miles from my home. I see traffic stopping and going and then notice a little dog confused and running throught he traffic. I stopped the car and had my son go see if he could help the dog. It ran straight to him , we got him in the car and noticed it was a yorkie ( overgrown with hair, mats and scared to death) SIne I was in a hurry I decided to bring him home and call the vet and dog pound tomorrow as well as advertise him on the radio as found. We got him home and I was able to better look him over. We immediately put in in a tub to saok and then I started to peel off the layers if hair and dirt. The more I combed to madder I got. This dog was matted clear to the skin with sticks and weeds stuck in his skin. Under his eyes his eyes had teared and matted so long I ad to cut the hair from unter them, I was horrified to see that he had a sore where it had been like that for so long that it had an awful stink as well. At that point I was not worried what the owners thought of me clipping him. He could not wait a week to be groomed. I had to SHAVE him almost completely off ( I am not a groomer either so he looks CRAZY) Any way, the dog seems well fed but old he has the signs of age in his eyes as his eyes are getting cloudy. He has some missing teeth. When I got to his feet I cried as did my two teens. They were horrified.. This poor dogs toenails had eitther grown clear around and the dpg was walking on them under his pads or they had grown into the skin and the skin had heled over them. They were a good 1 inch long.. He is neutered and seems very loving but very scared.he seems to miss his family but He could not have been in their home with him with the amount of grime I washe doff of him including the big dried on mat of poop that had caused sores around his butt. and would not allow any other poo to be excreted. He does not look great but I know he feels good. I dont know if he is losing his hearing or if he is ignoring me LOL.. he seems to be looking for his people or maybe another dog. I ahve him in a wire kennel in my workroom but now I dont know what to do with him. I cannot keep him and I am unsure who might want him. I feel so bad as I was excited to get him back to his owners but now I jsut wnat to beat the crap out of them. Me and my kids imagined when he was a puppy he was loved and played with and then jsut forgotten the older he got. He layed so still when I was brushing out his hair and loved getting a bath. He is an oldie but a goodie. Now what do you suggest? I clipped his nails down far enough to where he wasnt walking on them and he seems freaked out that he can walk now. Some of them had even grew sideways.. I am located in Utah and dont really know of a rescue near me. Let me know what you all think I should do with this guy. If I didnt have my other 3 I woudl keep him but , I have too many now... Bon |

| Bless you a thousand times for what you are doing for the poor neglected baby!!!!!!!!! I wish I could say you should do everything to find the owner, but after I read your description of his wretched condition, I fear he is better of without them. Please do everything you can to find a Yorkie rescue not to far from your area. We should all keep bumping this thread until someone from our YT community in your neck of the woods, can give you more info relating to a rescue. Huge hugs to you for comforting this aging furbaby!!!! Lauren |

| Awww Bless you for taking him in. I bet he was so scared running in the traffic and all. with being that ungroomed its hard to say or know if He had been lost for a long time or if thats how his owners left him. Makes you wonder if theres someone thats been out looking for him for a long time. I hope if there is that you find them and I hope if they left him like that that they are never found. I bet hes feeling so good now with the bath and hair cut and having those nails cut. I would hang up a few flyers but not give any information out about him. let the callers describe him if he is theirs. Do you have any pic's of him? |

| If you go to Petfinder.com and put in your zipcode on the search and just leave it generic for dogs (don't list a breed) there are several that come up. They will list the nearest ones first. Then just click on the shelter/rescue (instead of the dog available) and they will have info on the shelter. Good luck. You did a good thing! That poor little guy! If you contact one of these shelters they may even be able to give you info on others that may be nearer, but not listed.

| could you drop an email to the united yorkie rescue to get a suggestion from them? I am sure they will help you out. that was very kind hearted of you to pick him up and take care of him like you have. I forgot to add , if he is neutered he may be chipped too. get him to the vet and see if he is. I could not immagine any of mine out there lost and scared. poor baby. I bet someone has been looking for him for a long time.

| I just did a quick search and found these rescue related links for Utah: http://www.pet-ark.com/orgs.pl?j=org...&oC=UT&g=&oT=1 ://www.infodog.com/fancierpages/rescue/pages/041999c.htm http://www.netpets.com/dogs/dogresc/breeds/dogyork.html http://www.yorkiehavenrescue.com/ http://www.bestfriends.com/ The last one I just added, as I think it is based in Utah; found it on an earlier YT thread. I will keep looking and see what else I can find. Last edited by laurenr; 06-06-2007 at 06:16 PM. |

| Please contact a Yorkie Rescue. Please DO NOT brig him to a pound and/or shelter, he may not get adopted within their 'very tight' timeframe and then they could just decide to phts, how sad |

| God love U're bones and his! I don't know about his owner! What if they just dumped him??? I mean that sounds bad but it happens!!!!!! This is ONE of the many reasons I had my contracts say that my babies from our litters had to come back to us if the parents that got ours off of us couldn't keep them!!!! I'd take them back a thousand times over after hearing this...I may not have anywhere to sleep but they would! LOL! I hope he does find a good home. Your one of the many angels that God has put here to help Yorkies!!!! Hugs, Lee and Babies |

| Thank God for you and your family. I'm touched by this story. So many people these days have such busy lives. I wonder how many people saw this baby out there and thought.."Oh look at that poor little dog", but did nothing about it and drove on. You should sleep well tonight knowing that you helped this little guy, and that your teaching your children kindness and caring toward animals. Good Luck in your search for a forever home for him. I guess it is possible he's been gone awhile to get in that shape. I can't imagine someone letting their dog get that bad. Someone will be blessed to have him, and you will be blessed to have saved him.
