| What's a good toy or suggestion for keeping my Yorkie busy when alone? He is 5 months old and HATES to be by himself! He gets bored easy. During the week he does have to be by himself for hours at a time. I always feel bad leaving him. He just sleeps and waits by the door for someone to come home. Does anyone have any suggestions for certain toys or other ideas for keeping him busy and occupied when alone? I leave him treats and a small dental bone sometimes or his porkhide bone. He probably chews on them for a bit. But they don't appear offer any long term help. He just sleeps and seems very bored. He is not eating either (not until I come home and then I need to feed him myself). Any ideas? Really appreciate it! Someone suggested getting him a KONG toy, I am going to look into it. Sounds like there are a few KONG options, I need to figure out which one is the best for him and his age. thanks! |

| The only thing that gets Chewys attention now is a bully stick. They normally smell realllllllllllllllllly bad but not the ones from www.beyondspoiled.com They're called pixie sticks there. Im sure your little guy will love them. |

| Yes, a kong would be good. A lot of members, like myself, love the Hide-a-Squirrel. Also, you can find toys that are meant for dogs being left alone: they're motion, sound, or time activated and they dispense treats or make noise on their own. I know they have some different ones at Petco.

| My first suggestion is the KONG, but like the other things you tried, it won't really last all day. I saw some recording machine a while back online that lets you save a message for your pup. You can play is back while away at 1-4 hour intervals so the pup can hear your voice and not feel so lonely. There are also special DVDs for dogs (and cats) that keep some pets entertained. I have clients that leave the TV or radio on for their pets, too. If you can afford it, you can have a dog-walker or pet sitter come by during that day to take him on a walk or just play with him at home. (This is my job & I love it!) If you go that route, make sure the company is bonded & insured to protect you, and request references on the particular person you'll be getting.

| Hide a squirrel, never-ending treat ball, bully sticks, an old shoe or slipper to chew on! If you can afford it, consider doggy day care a few days a month. There is one near where I live that is only for toy breeds. Interestingly, I found that when I am not here, Gracie sleeps all day long. She did that from the time I brought her home at 8 weeks.

| I was also concerned that Conner was lonely while I was a work (work 6 hrs/day). I had treat balls with my husband's voice and my voice on it, special toys, you name it, he had it. My sister comes to my house at the half-way point to let Conner out. She said that sometimes he does not want to get out of his kennel (he is so tired). We really tire him out on the weekends!! Then my sister told me that her dog sleeps all day, even though she is home. That's when I knew that no matter what I left for Conner, he would still sleep until I came home!!

| Max also sleeps when I'm gone. I keep him gated in the bathroom with his bed, water, a couple of treats and the radio on. I came home a couple of weeks ago and he had managed to push the gate so that he could get out. He was sitting by the bathroom and literally jumped into my arms when he saw me. I think he was frightened all alone in our big house. I would try to keep your baby more confined. It seems to help them feel secure, and it's safer too. They're so little. I worry about him falling or getting stuck somewhere, biting a wire, who knows what?

| How bout another yorkie? I'm single and I'm gone for work usually 9 hours a day. Otis seemed sooooo bored. I got him a little brother (shihpoo). I don't know what they do when I'm gone, but I think they know that they aren't alone. I also leave the TV on. Usually when I come home from work they are all over me, but if I've had to take one of them and leave one at home, as soon as we walk in the door they are all about seeing each other and don't give me a second look. Don't know about any toys, but maybe as he gets older it will be easier on him. Good Luck!!

| Well, I have multiple fur babies, but before I did.. I would leave Bentley with a kong. We actually got this dispenser that every 2 hours throws out a kong stuffed w/treats so they don't get bored... it worked wonderfully and he never seemed to hate being alone...actually he's one of the only ones of my group that prefers sleeping alone on the couch to cuddling in bed w/us. |

| thanks for all the thoughts and feedback! I agree - someday I will get Coby a little friend and this will all be resolved! but until then I think you gave me some good ideas. I am going to start with a KONG toy and take it from there. which one should I get? looks like they come in a few different colors, sizes, shapes, etc. thank you! |

Mine eventually lost interest in hard rubber toys. Probably because I spoil them with soft, furry toys that they tend to shread. Be sure to put peanut butter inside the kong to keep it fun.
