| How do dogs do it? One thing that amazes me about dogs is how they can sense things so easily. Jake can tell if I'm upset about something. He will snuggle with me and give me kisses, like he's comforting me. When I had abdominal surgery, I was a little worried about him jumping up on my lap and bumping my tummy. But, when I came home from the hospital, it was like he knew. He didn't jump on my lap at all. He would jump up onto the couch next to me, then very gingerly get on my lap and lay down, like he was being oh so careful not to bump me. At night, I'd get into bed, and he would be very careful about how he layed down next to me. My hubby had to be in the hospital for a couple days, and he was the same way with him. He didn't have surgery, but Jake would periodically go check on him when he was napping. How do dogs know these things? I find it so interesting! |

| It really is fascinating. Growing up I had a bichon that her old owners had moved off and left her as a stray. She recently passed and was 20! When I was young she could sense when I was sick and would sleep ON my chest on those nights. If I stopped breathing or my coughing got bad she would go and jump in moms bed and wake her up to come see about me. dogs are such awesome creatures! |

| It might have to do with their sense of smell. I heard where dogs have actually warned diabetics of an impending attack, and have actually sniffed out cancer before the human even knew about it. It could just be an extra sense. I know when I have a headache, Gracie always seems to know where it hurts. She will get up on my shoulder and kiss the part of my head that hurts. It is so darn sweet!

| I was crying one day & all 3 came running up to comfort me. They knew something was wrong. I'm such a softy to a sad movie. Misha also knows when it's time for Daddy to come home. She will run to the door & start barking, I then call hubby to see where he is at. He just turned on our street.

| I have heard about dogs sniffing out cancer and stuff too! Dogs are such wonderful creatures! I don't know how they do it, but I am glad...Mojo has comforting me on so many occassions: like when I had strep throat and had 105 temp....he never left my side....he wouldn't even get up to eat or anything. The poor thing never even peed until he just HAD to. There was a special on tv awhile back, I didn't watch it, just seen the previews, that scientists were studying how animals knew about coming diseasters and storms, etc. (tsnuami, earthquakes, etc). I am sure that was interesting to watch.

| My mom had a Bischon mix when I was pregnant with my daughter. Her name was Muffin. That dog knew I was pregnant and followed me everywhere, where as before, she stuck to my mom like glue. She slept with me, was always checking up on me and stayed with me while I was going into labor, bawling my eyes out 'cause it hurt and I wanted to make sure it was real labor and not false labor. We never knew how old she was, but her vision got bad and she had a hard time getting around. And she was always in pain. When she fell down the porch stairs face first, I convinced my mom it was time to let her go and we put her down. That was a hard, hard day.

YT 500 Club Member | That is so sad; it is hard to hear that. I saw once how dogs that are in pain will not show it for their masters. They had a video of a dog that was in pain, and when the master came to the cage, the dog got up and acted very normal. I remember when our little Yorkie was a baby and was very ill (we had her three weeks, and she had kidney failure). Our vet said that we may need to put her down, and we asked if we could come and see her. She was so sick, but she got right up and wagged her little stubby tail. We were sobbing, and the vet right then desided that we needed to try to keep her alive. She is nearly six now!! |
