I don't think it's torture if your dogs don't mind them. I know some peoples dogs don't like to wear clothes or shows but mine really love too. When I get out Jaden or Jewelina's clothes they will start dancing around and sometimes Jewelina will even get into her clothes and bring me something like "Mommy, I'm naked!!

" They both walk great in their shoes, it's like they don't even have "shoes" on. We go for long walks everyday and I find that the rocks really makes their pads rough (our trails are made up of these little compacted rocks and some are really sharp) and Jewelina wants to get out there and run so much, sometimes she'll even scrape hers up if she doesn't have shoes on so we almost always wear shoes when we are outside, unless we are at the beach, because the sand is nice and soft or a really nice and smooth sidewalk or soft grass
Inside, they run around barefoot, unless we're taking pictures or going somewhere special. I think it's a personal decision for each person, but most importanly for your dog too. I say if they don't like them and can't walk well in them don't make them wear them
