| hello! im new to the forum! hello everyone, what a wonderful site you have here! and such a loving community! My name is Jodie from south east England. I joined because i am considering a Yorkie as my dog of choice! MY exams finish in June, afterwhich i will be out of the house for an hour a week, studying for a science exam. i would like to find part time work also,to help with the bills. i will be living in a flat with my boyfriend. i have alot of spare time, and would love to share my life with someone who loves me back, i can take care for, and look after and get so much happiness from. i enjoy walking, by myself just to get fresh air and have a look around. my boyfriend works long hours 5am-6pm and im alone most of the time. My mum is very opinionated and the only impression she gave of yorkies was they they were snappy and irritating. ive been looking at the right sort of dog for me, size, exercise and housing wise. would it be true to say that this is the right dog for my circumstances? i am not rushing into anything, and am reading as much as i can about yorkies! i wont be getting one for at least 5 months. a few questions i have for you: what is the maxiumum time you leave your yorkie alone for? is it ok to keep their fur short? ( i prefer them with short hair on the body) Are they adaptable to change ( i am wanting to take my yorkie to as many places as me! ) Also are there any Uk members here? thank you for all your help |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Welcome to YT. Don't listen to your Mom! Well, at least not about Yorkies. They are the No. 2 most popular breed in America, according to the American Kennel Club. But the breed came right out of the factories of London, where they were bred to chase vermin. They are spirited, affectionate and smart. They love to please, and they can be great traveling companions. OK, OK, some are yappy, but they can be trained not to. I don't leave them alone longer than 5 hours, but I know several people with eight-hour jobs who leave them at home. I guarantee that if you get one, you won't want to leave them alone longer than you have to. And, yes, there are several members from the UK here. Good luck making your decision! If it helps, I've never met a Yorkie owner who was disappointed in their Yorkie.

| MarilynMonroe, Welcome to YT. You will find YT informative, fun, and meet all kinds of nice yorkie luvvers. By the way, thought I'd let you know I was going to name my female yorkie, Marilyn Monroe's Majesta Lipstik because of her pedigrees. But it was so long (I had to also include the breeder's name in front of Marilyn Monroe) that I just decided on Lipstik. So, of course I like your name! Good Luck on your choice of yorkie! Please keep us updated on your decision and share pics! We love yorkie pics.

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | Hello and welcome to YT! 1st off your mom is very miss lead on Yorkies, They are NOT snappy or irratating at all! I think small dogs are mis judged as ankle biters. Yorkies are very loving and affectionate. They are very loyal and great companion dogs. You can groom there hair to however you like, it's all up to you. I leave my Lillie alone durning the day while I'm at work, she is in a ExPen and has a bed and blanky, food, water and a pee pad. Good luck to you and I hope you find the perfect baby for you! |

| By the way, it sounds like you already know some things of what you want in a yorkie. Mine are confident and loving, playful, not irritating. But each yorkie has their own temperament so it is good to ask the breeder, see for your self when you visit them and also find out what their dam and sires temperaments are since this is an important consideration, as are their size, coat, and so many other considerations. My yorkies all have long coat and this is because I show them. Many yorkie luvvers keep the puppy coat which is easy to manage. I have one whom I don't show and I keep his coat long also. I work outside the home but they have adjusted. Of course, they get so much attention from me and my fiancee. I think they are spoiled rotten which is exactly what I want. Then when we show, they know it is serious business. Hope this helps.

| thanks for the lovely advice, its great to hear peoples stories! i think my mum has that veiw because when i was younger her friends mum bred them, and i remeber lots of little pupies in a cardboard box, tiny ones, i think she had at least 8 dogs, and they must have been quite noisy! i agree with peoples perception of them being ankle biters, its a shame. and of course its hard to generalise because each dog is an individual. another question, are your dogs tailes docked? which is the most common? and do you agree/disagree with it? |

Yorkies are also known as purse dogs, so to your question as if they can go with you from place to place, yes, Yorkies usually love to go bye bye. If you do want them to be able to be in a purse, you will want to start this as a pup so they will get use to it, just like wearing a bow and clothes, start this as a pup. | |

| Hello I live in Nottinghamshire,England.I have Ellie who is now 8 monthes old.I can honestly say she hasn't got a nasty streak in her at all.I have never known her to growl or snap at anyone, not even when you take chewies of her She always wants to sit with you, cuddle and give kisses Although we have 2 other dogs I would not be without my Yorkie. My hubby dotes on her just as much As for the docked tails,it is now illegal to dock tails for cosmetic purposes so you might struggle to find one without a tail.My earlier Yorkies had docked tails and I thought they would look strange with one but Ellie has one and I think it is the cutiest thing. She seems to have so much more expression in her with a lovely flag to wave Enjoy YT

| Welcome to YT. I have never met a snappy irritating yorkie. I suppose they could be that way if they were not properly trained. My two are playfull and loving and and more entertaining than TV. They only bark at the deer in the yard or a strange dog in our yasrd. They get along with all other dogs, large and small and love all people, especially children. My small grandchildren are here frequently and they have been taught how to treat the dogs, therefore the dogs love them. |

| Hello & welcome to YT I'm fairly new as well. You're doing exactly the right thing, finding out as much as you can before getting a puppy. Have you been on the Europe board yet? It's much quieter than here. I live in Lancashire, in a village on the West Pennine moors, just a few miles from the border with Yorkshire. |

| Love My Yorkie Welcome to Yorkie Talk it is addicting... My yorkie is a lover not snappy at all loves to be held by anyone even a stranger. I have raised 4 pups and they are lovers. I now have a batch of 6 pups to give the same attention too. But My daughter Has a Lhasa Apso that we raised from 6 weeks old and he will eat a stranger up. and a friend of mine raises Maltese and they are very protective. we have a Jack Russell and 1 Rat terrier and they are both friendly. all of our dogs stay outside but the Yorkie. they have all been socialized by going to the flea market or to gatherings. but for some reason the Lhasa now if he is in your arms he is fine with people but you leave him in the yard he protects. i guess natural instincts. I know nothing of the other breds. I have not had any problems of shedding or matting with the yorkie but with the others YES quite a bit even with the short hair of a jack russell and rat terrier shed shed shed. and with the Lhasa i have to keep him trimmed because he will matt up what a job that is...I hope you fine a suitable furbaby............
