Micro-Chips? I'm sure there must be some information about this somewhere on the wide world of the internet, but I can only seem to find vague pages. The micro-chip that they put in dogs, so that they can be returned to owners? Does anyone know really how that works? And, my boyfriend and I are planning on moving out of the area soon, so...how do you change the information if it's already implanted in your dog? Also, I'm afraid if Monster gets lose, someone will just keep him, how does anyone have any way of knowing if he has a chip? I'm just curious because we have a vet appointment on Teusday, and I want to know what I'm asking for regarding this chip-thing. I also don't really trust this vet, I feel like he'll try to sell me anything. So, if anyone knows anything or has any helpful websites that I must've missed, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!

| My golden retriever is chipped. After my sister's dog died, I gave Amber to her. When she took Amber to her first vet appointment, my information came up on the chip scan. The vet's office called me to see if I knew this person had my dog. I think it would be good for recovery purposes.

Both of my boyz are microchipped and I'm glad I've had it done. Of course, if your dog gets out and someone picks him up you can never be assured that they will try to find the rightful owner but the microchip will help if they take him in somewhere to be scanned. The chip is like a grain of rice, it's injected into the skin around the shoulder blade and stays there. You get a paper to fill out and send into the registration company and also a small slip of paper that has the dog's number printed on it for your records. You also get a tag for your dog to wear with a toll free number for people to call, they give the number on the tag and they will tell them who the dog belongs to. If you move you can change your information through the company so everything is kept up to date. I know it's not a 100% guarantee but it makes me feel a little better knowing my boyz chipped.

I got Venus microchipped Tuesday when I got her spayed. Cost me 30 bucks to do this. I think when I mail the paperwork back in with her information on it, will cost another 18 or so. They give you a tag to put on your dog. Also, if you loose your dog, and someone tries to look for the owner, they can scan the microchip, and find you. Their phone # on the tag they give you is 666-736-4324. Their chip # is also on the tag. I've only been here since August, but have seen several come here that found a yorkie, and they have checked for microchip, and nothing. Or microchip had an old address. Have also seen too many loose their dogs, with no microchip. I suppose if you need to change your address, you call that phone # I put above. To me its worth it! Least if someone honest finds her, there are much better chances of me getting her back.

I forgot to add there are 2 types of micro chips AVID and Home Again. Not sure one is universal, I'm not sure which one.

It was on the news this morning, that some womans dog ended up in Chicago, she isn't sure how, and the dog was microchipped so they reunited them. If you move, you need to contact the registry and they will change your information, also if you were to sell the dog. The microchip does not carry your information, it is just like a bar code and when it is scanned it brings up your information from a data base.
