I had both mine chipped.........just gives me peace of mind that I have done everything I can to find them should they ever get lost. A lot of pets were scattered because of Hurricane Katrina and because some were microchipped, they were returned to their owners. When we travel in the car should we have an accident and they are able to get out and run because they are scared, I feel I have a better chance of having them returned with the chips. Rescue agencies, vet, pounds and humane societies have a scanner to check for chips. They both wear three tags with loads of information and the chip. I WANT MY BABIES BACK IF WE GET SEPARATED SOMEHOW!!! But sure hope that never happens.

We made up our minds, thanks to all of you!! Especially since we're moving to the city. Monster is going to be chipped. My boyfriend doesn't want to give him a tag with our address on it, because he said 'If a decent person picks up the dog, they'll see the tag chip and will call, if an indecent person (and there are plenty of those in NYC) finds or steals the dog with bad intentions, we don't want them knowing our names and apartment.' Which, on one hand I thought: we should do EVERYTHING in our power to get our baby back to us, and on the other hand, I couldn't help but agree that it's not the same as our usual suburbia. However, even if we weren't moving, he'd be chipped anyway.

i would get little layla microchipped if only i can get something online like when u track a package you know where it is at on the computer on a screen because of the satalite and what not, before i knew what a microchip really was i thought it worked that way as a tracker, beacause when u have a yorkie or a dog that is the most wanted and pricy in the world ect, people who find them will not give a darn if they are microchiped or not, (only those few will return a lost or found dog) its kinda hard to just put something in a dogs back and hope that who ever finds your dog when its lost will return them to you.

That's the exact reason why you should have your dog chipped because they just might scan for the chip. I can guarantee if I found a dog I would have it scanned, first thing...but if there are no tags and no chip then what? If your dog is stolen and you spot it somewhere that chip may be the only proof you have that it's your dog. As for the chip moving around, when my vet scanned my boys to be sure the chip read they scanned over the entire body, not just the shoulder area...that scanner will pick up the chip on a small dog even if it moved some. I guess it isn't for everyone but I know it did give me a little more peace of mind after I had the boys done.

and i think not everyone one in the world is like you caring and capable of getting a dog scanned, i guess its really where you live, IMO but i really do wish like lets say my little layla were to get lost and had a chip, for someone to take her and get her scanned, but what are the odds of someone finding a lilttle 3 month old silky 2lbs, and not wanting to keep her? its slim.

because im sure with her walking alone 2 blocks in the street someone would of taken her home and kept her already, in those two blocks no vet, nor a rescue nor a human society would of showed.

The lady two doors up from us lost her dog .... it was seen being picked up and driven off in a unknown car.

Two years later, after the family had bought a new dog she got a phone call to let her know her dog had been handed in.

Turns out the person who had "stolen" her dog was moving to somewhere that did not allow dogs so she took it to the pound.

*shakes head*

So two years after the dog went missing, she got him back because of the microchip.

My boy is micro-chipped.

In my humble opinion, it would seem to me that vets should be required to check for microchips in any new animal brought to them since anyone with an animal, sooner or later, must bring them to a vet for treatment. Plus, at least in the case of Yorkies, we all KNOW they need regular vet and grooming appointments. It would seem that if a reward or something could be built into the system then more establishments would scan for microchips and we'd all have a better shot of getting our babies back!. Actually, microchipping human children doesn't seem so farfetched either come to think of it. And to GPS a child? How many abducted children might be found if that became a reality? Am I weird? Just couldn't imagine the anguish, that's all.

I believe disney has a phone with a on-line GPS locator as part of the package.

Pretty much all mobile phones can be used to locate someone's position as long as they are turned on, but while they "can" be used, I don't know if all the phone companies share enough information to make this work in the real world.

I've seen promotional stuff regarding GPS locators to be sneaked into bags, shoes etc ... I even read about GPS panties marketed to the insecure man (ie the panties were for the woman for him to be able to check up on her) but I've never seen these items actually sold ... yet.
