The chip is like a grain of rice, it's injected into the skin around the shoulder blade and stays there. You get a paper to fill out and send into the registration company and also a small slip of paper that has the dog's number printed on it for your records. You also get a tag for your dog to wear with a toll free number for people to call, they give the number on the tag and they will tell them who the dog belongs to. If you move you can change your information through the company so everything is kept up to date.

I know it's not a 100% guarantee but it makes me feel a little better knowing my boyz chipped.

I forgot to add there are 2 types of micro chips AVID and Home Again. Not sure one is universal, I'm not sure which one.
