| Peeka Boo I See You! Donating Member | I my black lab and both my cats chipped and i'll tell ya my lab has gotten out so much but we always get a call from the pound saying we have your dog here lol it really is worth the investment because most of the time they will get picked up by animal control also if someone does steal the dog when they go to the vet sometimes they do scan them so it's better to be safer than sorry. i haven't got Peeka's done yet but i will have it done soon.

Diesel doesn't run loose. As for sneaking out of the house... Well thats not a big deal. When we let him out to go pee we just open the door and let him go. I walk out with him and when he is finished he comes and stands beside me. I live in the county on a mountain so I don't have to worry about city streets.I know that some dogs will run if given the chance. Diesel isn't like this. I see no point in getting the chip. If he was the type of dog that would run just given the chance then I MIGHT would think about it. I also don't worry about someone stealing him. He is never left alone outside because of the Hawks in the area. I don't leave him in the car alone either. Everyone has to do what they feel is right. There is no right and wrong answer.

My boys aren't runners either and I'm always with them too...we have hawks, bald eagles and huge owls along with fox and cyote. But, I worry about them being scared by something and getting away from me or what if something happened while I was gone and they got out of the house...like a tornado, fire or break-in. Paranoid? Maybe...but it happens. My sister's Yorkie was taken right off of her front porch, from her daughter's hands and she really had a hard time proving he was hers so she could get him back...that's the kind of stuff I worry about. The chips are peace of mind for me and my boys just in case. | |

| One good thing about the micro chips are that if for some odd reason your dog gets stolen, You can prove that it does belong to you if you do find it. If some one takes your dog and is discovered it's your word against theirs. In court they won't put you and the theif on opposite ends of the room and have you each call the dog and give him to whomever the dog goes to. Microchipping or tatooing is the easiest way to identify.

| Every Shelter in the US has a micro-chip scanners and can detect chips of all brands. All my dogs have AVID chips. AVID And Home Again are the big names out there. So god forbid if you dog gets out and loses it's collar the chances are much higher that your dog will be returned to you. With out an I.D or chip you may never see your dog again. I think every dog should be required to be micro-chipped. I bet that would cut down on the numbers of dogs that people dump by their owners. Also there is a GPS collar that is on the market. It will broadcast it's location to your cell phone...e-mail. etc The two major problems that I see with it are that #1 They are very bulky collars. #2 If someone is stealing your dog I am sure they would remove the collar. So even if you decide to go that route, I would still get a Micro-chip as they cannot be removed.

| My boy is chipped, I wouldn't have it any other way. The shelter in Elgin, IL does it for $18. http://www.wftv.com/news/10543880/detail.html read that and your mind will change! If the vet feels one, they will check it, or they should. And if that doesn't match the people who are there, they call on it. I wouldn't have it any other way. I am getting my cat's done in the spring. Jillian |

| I had Bailey micro-chipped last year when I had her spayed. We have moved since so I just called the 1-800 number for Home Again and they updated all the information. I never received a tag from them but if your dog is wearing a tag with the micro-chip number on it, can't anybody who finds or steals your dog change the information? I did it for my piece of mind. Michele & Bailey plus another one soon..... |
