| Shaved! Yes, shaved! =( So, I took Howie to get groomed this weekend (it was spur of the moment thing, since my BF kept saying Howie needed a cut). To make a long story short, they said he was too badly matted on his sides and legs and it would be too much on him to comb out the mats (his skin would be irritated, etc.). So, they said the only thing to do was shave it and insisted his next coat would come in a lot better. My boyfriend also just convinced me to do it since it would be in Howie's best interest so he didn't have to have his hair pulled at, or his mats getting worse. I was EXTREMELY upset. I was just PMing Stedman's mom about Howie cut, and then now it came down to this. Has anyone ever had to have their baby shaved? I'm hoping it doesn't take too long for his coat to grow in. They said to have it the length I came in with, it would take 2-3 months. But, I don't want it that long, so I'm hoping not more than 2 months. That's still a long time. |

| AWWWWWWWWWWWW! Poor Howie!!!!!!!!!! You're gonna have to get that baby a COAT since it's cold out! You don't want that baby getting cold this winter!!!!!! Maybe you should invest in some Cowboy Magic so his coat won't ever get so badly matted again. |

| it is better for them if the hair is that matted to shave it off. when it does grow back (which it will) you will need to make sure you keep it groomed everyday. i am actually thinking about having my kirby shaved up to his face b/c i cant seemed to keep him groomed everyday and even if i do, a few hours later it looks like a mess.

| Buddy has been shaved down during the last two summers. He grew back, not down to the floor of course, in about 2-3 months at which time he needed to be trimmed. I let him grow for 4mos and went in for a trim and again he was cut down but not shaved so were starting again to let it grow. Be patient because you have no choice. It will grow back. | Awww..dun worry!! Howie will still be adorable!! Zoe second haircut was a complete shave. I did not ask for it but that's what the groomer did. I was really upset but everyone else LOVED it! It grew back really quickly. It took 2 months for him to grow to the lenght I wanted Quote:

| I am sooooo sorry. I took Josie in once (and only once). This was still during her puppy stage. She still had some black in her coat. Well, when it was time to pick her and they brought her out. I looked up and smiled and said, "I'm sorry that not my baby" and went back to writing my check. They said, "actually this is your dog". I looked up and was so stunned, that I practically started crying. They kept apologizing and saying that they was the only option. Ever since then I do my own grooming. She may not have the best cut, but at least I know what I want. Don't worry it be a slow process but, it will grow back.

They did tell me. Oh no, if they did it without my consent, I would throw a FIT!! I did not want to give in, but I had to think rationally, hahah. I had to keep reminding myself that it WILL grow back. I think I will be looking into Cowboy Magic. I think it was that bad because I was not used to combing him when I initally got him, so it was hard. But, this has definitely set me straight. EVERYDAY!!! But yes, he has a big (literally big on him now w/ no fur!) sweater on. He still has his little face nice and trimmed the way I like it though. My poor baby.

| Thank you, everyone for you support and making me feel better about it. I was a total baby when it came to it. I was seriously tearing. I stayed there the WHOLE time because I refused to leave and wanted to take him home as soon as it was over. LOL. But, thank you everyone. At least I know he's not the only one that HAD to be shaved. Lesson learned I guess. I just feel so bad because it's winter. But, reason to buy him more clothes!!!! |

I took Bailey into a new groomers in June and they shaved her down to the skin; I was horrified. They said she had a matt under her front leg they couldn't get out and so they shaved her WHOLE body. I didn't pick her up from the groomers my son did, but he did call to tell I wasn't going to be very happy Bailey didn't have a matt, I am very good about brushing her out, I always do before I take her to the groomers. She just went in to get her ears and privates cleaned up. Anyway her hair is growing back out, it does take a couple of months. At this time of the year just invest in a sweater. The good news is Bailey really liked her haircut and not wearing bows in her hair It will grow back in time, Michele & Bailey

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | You saved him from pain - you probably did the right thing - some mats can be to the skin if unnoticed so I would have done the same thing - groomers can be rough and it IS only hair and will grow back - enjoy it and I bet he's loving his little naked self when a groomer cut Chanel way too short - she loved her sassy self |

| I know how you feel, my baby had to be shaved on his belly on legs when he was 3.5 months old, I didn't really have an idea about a proper combing and he got terribly matted... I'd rather they did that and I could start from scratch than put him through dematting right on the first grooming visit. It grew back quickly, it hasn't been 3 months yet and he already has his hair longer than he used to before that groom. Needless to say, I religously comb him every morning and at least he doesn't have bad experiences...

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Well I feel just terrible!! All these little pooches going to get a Steddy haircut and it is nothing but a horrible experience for them! I wish you could all just bring them to me and I would cut their hair for ya!!! LOL First little Wookie (although I think he looked sooo cute!!!), and now little Howie Don't feel bad though - the same exact thing happened to me the one (and only) time I took Stedman to be groomed. He didn't have any mats (maybe a tiny one or two, nothing major) however the groomer just DIDN'T know what she was doing, obviously. She told me herself (AFTERWORDS!!!) that she was new I guess she did the best she could - but he was SUPER short, shaved down...and looked like a Schnauzer!! I was SUPER unhappy - but it DID grow back...and it grew back fast! His hair grows quick though - thank goodness! I'm sure little Howie still looks PRECIOUS!!! Get him some cute little sweaters if he doesn't have them already - that will hide the haircut and keep him warm at the same time BIG hugs to you Howie boy!! I'm so sorry to hear that you had a bad time at the groomers
