| You want to hear something really sad? I actually shaved my first Yorkie, Maggie down myself -- sort of a Schnauser cut leaving a tiny thin skirt. We had Hurricane Ivan come in and tear the place apart bad -- I knew from experience we would be without power for a long time and she could not stand the heat. With no A/C, I felt the only thing to do was take off her long coat. So before we went back home, I bought a set of clippers and sheared the poor baby. I about cried but like yours -- everyone kept telling me how cute she looked that way. So, it is only our own mind thinking they need all that long hair. I am sure he is still a little doll and it will all grow back in soft and silky. Order some Cowboy Magic Detangler and you will be all set when it does.

What happend to Wookie's hair? I haven't had a chance to go through all of the post yet. But, I know it wasn't her fault. A few of the groomers came out to look at him and they showed me, and I do agree he was matted pretty bad (because I didn't brush him from the beginning). So, I guess it was the best option. But, I totally feel for those who do not even expect to see their babies this way, and coming back to pick them up. OMG, I would be furious. But, like everyone says. It will grow out. And, my boyfriend offered to groom Howie the next time. He's good with clippers and trimming...he does his own hair! ahhaha. So, we'll see. | |

I think it is so cute though!!! She said that they cut his body too short (although in the pic he has a shirt on) but I think his face looks adorable! You are right though - if little Howie was matted, shaving him down was the best possible thing for him - and thats all that matters! As you said it will grow back...and it'll be there before you know it! I'm sure your boyfriend will do a great job on him the next time around P.S.- Here is the link to Wookie's post: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=61169

| When we got Tia she had to be shaved because she was so matted. She was all black and about 15 weeks old and when it grew back it came in so light she looks almost white. We keep all 3 of ours in a puppy cut because they matt so much that they hated to be brushed everyday and now I can put clothes on them and not worry about the knots! |

| From a groomer's point of view -- there really isn't much else they can do. If a dog is badly matted -- it can take hours and hours to get them out - plus, this would be the worst day your dog ever had in it's life. It hurts! And - to be honest - some matts just can't be removed. ********* So the lesson is to do some daily grooming at home. I really think that if you have a real problem with your dog matting (a lot) - I'd keep it in a puppy cut......it's much easier and this is one of my favorite cuts anyway! In a way - you can count your blessing now - and if you keep her matt free at home - you won't have to go through this again. ----------- As far as it being winter -- I don't see any problem here. My little guy has short hair - and I can't get him to come in. I only let him stay out for 10 or 15 minutes - and then I have to go out and drag him in...and, he never seems to be very cold. He's never shivering..... Carol Jean |

| Bald yorkies aren't that bad Maizee only had hair until she was about 4 months old and then she lost it all. A lot of people think I shaved her, but she just doesn't have any hair. In fact, whenever I take her places, people ask where they can buy a bald yorkie! So it's not all bad and the sweaters are fun This is a picture of Maizee when she first lost it. She even has less on her tush than it shows there, but she doesn't look too bad, I think. Maybe it's a face only a mother could love though |

| Alot of groomer will do this if they find what they consider to be many matts. It makes it easier on the groomer. Thats why you always want to stress the fact that if they find too many matts on your baby they are to call you to get permission to shave or for you to pick him up. Also daily brushing is very important to keep those matts under control. |

| Before I found YT, I kept Adonis cut really short. But I do the cutting! Since I found YT, and all of you highly recommended Cowboy Magic, Venus hasn't been cut, and Adonis's hair is slowly (and I do mean slowly) growing back out. He's 5 years old, and Venus is 6 months old. That stuff works miracles on mats, and so does daily brushing and de-matting. Never again, will either be shaved. And I will not take them to a groomer, because they don't use cowboy magic to get mats out, and most groomers would rather shave than take the extra time and expense with Cowboy Magic. After all, time is money out of their pockets. |
