it is better for them if the hair is that matted to shave it off. when it does grow back (which it will) you will need to make sure you keep it groomed everyday. i am actually thinking about having my kirby shaved up to his face b/c i cant seemed to keep him groomed everyday and even if i do, a few hours later it looks like a mess.
