| Spoiled Ok...My Yorkie (Henry) won't eat his Kibble unless I hand feed it to him. I started this when I first got the little guy as a puppy. Ever since this, he just snubs his nose at the bowl of kibble. I'm worried he isnt getting enough food. I work, and Im away from home a good 9 hours a day. Is there anyway I can get him to start eating from his bowl? My husband says if he is that hungry he will eat from his bowl, but Henry won't....

| You can use the if they are hungry, they will eat theory for a lot of dogs but I doubt that you can use it on Yorkies.

| have you tired adding something "good" to his food and see if he will eat it out of there... like scramble egg or something you can mix in there that he likes, to see if that works? I really dont know what to tell you.. My girls get the food from there bowel and walk a few feet from it and then eat it..they do this till the food is gone. Maybe some one else can help you on here... I am not much help. |

| Your hubby is right! When he gets hungry he will eat. Hard not to feed him but I had to go through this too. It is called being SPOILED and a hard habit to break. LOL ( SHHH, Don't tell my hubby but I still feed him by hand at times LOL ) He may not like his food very much. It took me a while to find one that Diesel would eat. He now eats dry Innova. It sounds like he is at a good weight so he should be eating enough now. I would start giving him at least a cup a food a day. Then go from there and see if he wants more or less. Good Luck with your baby.

| we do a bit of both with layla... my mom just hand fed her because she hadn't eaten much today. but if we left it.. eventually she would get hungry and eat it.. clearly he LIKES the food since he eats when you feed him... layla will go all day an not eat.. then around 8 or 9 at night.. just pig out.. she seems to be a night eater... but if i get worried about her.. i'll hand feed. he WILL eat if he is hungry! |

| I know EXACTLY what your going through, the thing is mine wont even eat it out of my hand unless its been soaked in some warm water....and then shell eat them one at a time from my hand. What im trying to do is get her to start eating from the bowl and then ill adjust the amount of water until it is dry. It will take months im sure. Today instead of giving it to her from my hand i put 2 hand fulls into her bowl with a few table spoons of water and a table spoon of rice and i heated it in the microwave for 20 seconds just until it was luke warm. She only left about 5 pieces!!!The trick is to mix it with something she cant pick out because if you put some veggies or meat, shell just pick it out and leave the dry food. good luck and just try to be patient |

| My boyfriend's mother does the same thing with her yorkie, but you know what? When any of us keep her yorkie, we put the food down and when he gets hungry, he eats. I think he knows that we're not going to hand feed him and he doesn't even try it. If your furbaby won't eat and you want to wait him out, you could smear some some nutri-cal on his tongue to make sure his sugar doesn't drop too low and maybe put some corn syrup in his water. Just so you don't worry so much.

| We had to hand feed Tatum (and try tricks like rolling it on the floor for her to chase!) when she was new to us but it didn't take long for her to start eating on her own. I think the trick is to just stop doing it and he WILL eat when he gets hungry and realizes that you aren't going to coddle him. Very hard to do, I know, but he's got you trained right now and you need to show him the other way around! Good luck!

| I was getting there... Awww, I know that feeling when you put kibble in their bowl in the morning, they just sniff it and no interest and when you come back from work it's the same amount of food in the bowl . Seemed to me Pepper never ate when he was alone at the house. So I'd start throwing kibble for him or hand feed him to make him eat more. And started thinking "what am I doing... ". Instead I started mixing his 1/3 cup dry with 1-2 teaspoons of wet food early in the morning and he was eating! Before I left for work I add another 1/4 cup dry only and he usually finishes it before bedtime. He just can't 'start' his day only on dry for some reason

| If you really want him to learn to eat from his bowl, I would have a hard and fast rule that treats are ONLY given in his bowl, never from your hand. Any time you want to give him a treat, put it in his bowl. After a few days of that, put a little bit of kibble in his bowl with a little bit of a treat - a few grains of rice, a little grated cheese, or whatever. If he eats that, he gets more of both the kibble and the treat. When he is consistently eating from his bowl, you can wean him off the extras.

| Maizee has never had a problem eating her food. She's such a little porker, but my boyfriends doberman would not eat unless he was sitting on your lap and eating out of your hand. Needless to say, this got a little old. We switched his food and now he practically bowls us over just to get to it! I don't know if this will work for you, but it's worth a try. Or, like it was mentioned before, I would put something tasty in there for him. Hopefully something works out for you |
