If you really want him to learn to eat from his bowl, I would have a hard and fast rule that treats are ONLY given in his bowl, never from your hand. Any time you want to give him a treat, put it in his bowl.

After a few days of that, put a little bit of kibble in his bowl with a little bit of a treat - a few grains of rice, a little grated cheese, or whatever. If he eats that, he gets more of both the kibble and the treat. When he is consistently eating from his bowl, you can wean him off the extras.
