| ![]() I'm really sorry if this has been answered before, but I tried searching the forums and couldn't find much about it. Right now, I have a 1 year and 3 month old female yorkie and she is the love of my life. I was really interested in finding another yorkie for her because it just seems like having two would be double the fun and it would give her a playmate. I already purchased a female puppy from the same mother as my first, but she won't be born until early February and won't be with me until early to mid April. I just wanted to get a head start on whether I should buy a separate crate for the puppy or if I should crate them together. The crate Maizee currently occupies is large enough for the both of them, but I didn't know if separate crates would be better. By that time, Maizee will be about 1 year and 8 months old. I don't know if age plays a factor. I was just throwing it out there. What does everyone else do? |

| ![]() I was going to say that you might try it -- ***** But with a little more thought -- I'm thinking that even though my two dogs get along very well - but I'm not sure they could stand being around each other that close - that much. It could ruin a very good friendship.....you know what I mean? Plus - perhaps every little dog is entitled to have a place all his own...where he can go and get away from the world and just lay back and relax.... I remember when I brought my new little Yorkie pup home, he wouldn't let my other dog rest for a minute. He just wanted to bite and jump and chew and play constantly (expect for when he was totally passed out asleep). So - I know if I had crated him with my older dog - my older dog wouldn't have gotten a moment's peace - probably still wouldn't (and this is a year later). AND - when I got my new little Yorkie puppy, he loved his own bed (not a crate). He was jumping in and out of his new little bed all the time and taking all his toys there, etc. I think he liked having his own place also. It only took him ten minutes to learn that that bed was his.....and only his...... and he loved it. Carol Jean Good luck - Carol Jean |

| ![]() I think that it depends on the dog. My little Seymour is a snuggler, but Shelby likes her space and sleeps much better on her own. If they are traveling and in a crate, they are together. I don't think that I would leave them alone in it together.... just because I know Shelbs would be more comfy without her little brother lying all over her! ![]() |

| ![]() When you get the puppy, if you are crate training you'll need the smaller space. If your present crate has a divider that will work. I have two (one 23 months and one 15 months) and at this point I can't seperate them. They have to be together. If one goes to the vet the other one cries until it's buddy returns. I have a gate between the family room/kitchen and the rest of the house and they carry on if one is on one side and the other is on the other side. |

| ![]() My three have run of the house except at night (Joey sleeps with me) and when we're gone. And even though they all get along great, they all three have their own crate.

| ![]() If I were you here is what I would do. For the first week or so, until the dogs get use to each other and the baby gets use to the idea of sleeping else where, I would stick the new baby in a box just big enough that she won't jump out of (or a laundry basket would probably work). That way you don't have to buy another crate. Then after the dogs are use to each other and the baby knows to sleep at night I would stick them together. The pup will probably be use to sleeping with it's litter mates anyway. I know my dogs like to snuggle at night time. Of course mine all snuggle with me in my bed. ![]()

| ![]() Thanks for all your input! I think I will just separate them at least until I know whether Maizee can tolerate her all the time. I know Maizee would love to be trapped with my Golden Retreiver to play all the time, but I doubt the golden would feel the same way! I didn't really think about that. What do you think about travel time, then? Maizee goes with me EVERYWHERE and usually I just let her run around in my car, but I doubt it will be very easy to travel with two little girls running around. I have a small pet taxi for Maizee. Should I buy a smaller one for the new baby, or just get a larger one for both to make it easier on me? |

| ![]() This tread was helpful because I was wondering the same thing on if I should leave my yorkie and his new sibling in the same bed/pen when I go to work......and at night time I am just going to buy another little cage for the new pup and they will just sleep side by side but in different beds. But as far as work I don't know what I am going to do either put them in the same playpen or what ![]() ![]()

| ![]() I have a male and female and when we go out they are caged together (36x24x27). They are male 2yrs and female 15 mo. We had him first and then got her. She is very bonded to him and cries when they are seperated. Even the groomer has to keep them together because she gets too upset. |
