When you get the puppy, if you are crate training you'll need the smaller space. If your present crate has a divider that will work. I have two (one 23 months and one 15 months) and at this point I can't seperate them. They have to be together. If one goes to the vet the other one cries until it's buddy returns. I have a gate between the family room/kitchen and the rest of the house and they carry on if one is on one side and the other is on the other side.
