| You really shouldn't leave any dog outside (not just a yorkie) because anything can happen, like people already listed how they can escape, or get attacked or get hurt. Your best bet is to keep him inside in a crate. If it's going to be a long time, get him a larger crate or an xpen like others suggested.

| LIke many others I would not leave my Yorkies out side... To many things that can go wrong. Definitely keep them in a crate or pen in the house. They are house dogs and only outside while you are there watching them.

| I have a doggie door from inside the house.. to a fence in deck and a very secured fence yard area for them to come and go when they please. ( Humane Society does approve of my setup) How ever I do not leave them alone for very long out in the yard area because they love to dig and chase bugs ect.. and i am always scared they could get out they are very smart. when they where very young i took them to a sitter. so i guess you need to sort the pros and cons like cars, other animals, neighborhood, ect..

| Thanks everyone for your comments! They are a big help! I really do have my heart set on yorkie, but I want to make sure my home is the proper environment and I know what I'm getting myself into before I get a cute yorkie! I am yorkie sitting this weekend for a friend and I'm excited about that! Thanks for the welcome! |

| my dogs are NEVER outside unless I am too. They are basically never out of my sight and reach. BTW, I have six. My pug and mini-poo go out alone to potty but that's all. |

No rock throwing!! lol! I would NEVER leave a yorkie out by themselves! Yes, a hawk could snatch up your baby in a heart beat...not to mention someone could steal them or they could get into something they shouldn't...I know alot of people here have used x-pens...you may want to look at something like that to keep him confined to one area.

| My opinion is theres to many what ifs if you leave him or her outside and this goes for all breeds. My neighbor leave their dogs outside when they are gone and they are always getting out of the yard

I couldn't have said it better. Well I could have, but since you covered everything I'll just let it go. LOL I'd just be afraid they might get out. I don't leave mine out just to run to the store. | |

| Absolutely not. We had a bad scare not too long ago ourselves. My girls never go outside without me or my husband, ever! |

| We are moving in a week and the house we are moving to has a fenced in yard but right now we have about 1/4 of our yard fenced in so that the dogs can run right out the back yard and they are in the fenced in area. I usually leave them out there long enough to do their business. A few days ago I was doing dishes and my middle son walks through the front door with little Reece...HE ESCAPED...luckily my son was outside playing and found him!! Darla had dug him a hole so he could get under the fence!! I am not kidding!! Darla NEVER EVER digs...its like they were trying to break out of jail lol...oh my.. Anyhow I really wouldnt recommend it...and now I watch them...and they watch me back hoping they can attempt the great escape again lol... Dawn |

| I agree, please don't leave him/her outside all day. I would get an x-pen because who wants to be locked in a crate all day.

| Yorkie sitting is a great thing to do when you're considering a Yorkie - though one thing to consider is that this dog will be bonded to someone else, so may not behave the same as yours would. Re: outside - the other thing I haven't seen mentioned is the *barking* Some Yorkies are big barkers (mine is!) - that's why I have to have day care for Mr. Bud Man - or my neighbors would run me out on a rail! |
