If your breeder would write something for me that would be great. I'd really appreciate it.

Only an autopsy would prove what the poor little pup had. Most contracts state that you have to get one done so that it isn't only guess work. What a sad ending. | |

I'm so sorry. I'm a breeder and would release a puppy before 12 weeks of age But, would never ship a puppy under any conditions, least of all in the summer or winter. AKC website states Toy Breeds should not be placed in homes prior to 12 weeks of age. YTCA code of conduct states puppies leaving the breeders possession will be a minimum of twelve weeks.

Oops! I meant would not release a puppy before the age of 12 weeks, and would wait longer if a puppy is 2 pounds or less.

Dlynn, May I ask where in Missouri did you get your little one that passed? I got my Maltese in St Charles Missouri. This lady was a little senile and when my baby got sick also when I got her home, I took her to the vet. She had something wrong with her liver enzymes. My vet suggested I take her back. I was so attached to her I hated to. I called the lady and she was very rude with me and her son also. He said they never had any problems with any of their dogs.. NONE they said. Well I kept her and she is okay now. She is 2 years old and doing great, but I will never buy from these people again. Just thought maybe it was the same place. Brenda & Bobo & Libby & Max says Hi!

I got Piper from a breeder in Kansas. She was 13 weeks when she shipped her, but only 1.3 lbs. She said she was concerned about shipping her because of her size. She took her to her vet a couple of days before shipping. Checked out ok. HA! When I got her I could see she was sick. Her ribs sticking out, stomach sunk in. Took her to my vet right away. She had coccidia, giardia, bronchitis. Took a couple of weeks to get her healthy. The breeder did reimburse me for the 1st vet bill, but not all of it. She paid a $100, I paid $300. I would never recommend her, but she did seem concerned. Now if Piper would have died, I wouldn't have been reimbursed for the vet bills, but she would have sent another puppy, If I was willing to pay for airfare. If I ever get another puppy, I've learned to get one closer. Visit them, see the parents. Do-not go on picture alone. Unless it was from a breeder on the site. To many people out there just wanting to make a buck.

I looked on nextdaypets.com last night, mainly to look at pics of all the cute yorkies up for sale. I found a few listings from the place where I got my last furbaby (petconnectonline.com). There are 2 of them I saw with full AKC registration, they are 9 weeks and have been availiable for a week in a half so they were going to sell them at 7 and a half weeks. Did I read the AKC site wrong? I thought it said that AKC yorkies were not to be sold until a minimum of 12 weeks. This makes me mad as they don't seem to care that they are selling pups when they are not ready to go to their forever home.

Will ask my breeder a little later...right now she's very upset A message to all: I will post this again. Becareful with chainlink fences even if your dog is perfectly trained! You never know. My breeders' championed dog was outside with her in the garden behind their fenced yard! A kitten decided to come into the yard. Before she knew it, the kitten climbed the fence and the dog jumped and climbed over the 6 foot fence. They have been looking for her all night long! Nothing yet. She's very upset of course. I will be at her house on Sunday. I will ask her then about your letter. Please tell everyone to not trust fences.

Hi, I so sorry for your loss! I don't think the breeder did anything illegal, BUT a pup that small should not be sold or for sure not shipped in my opinion. I am a breeder and don't let my pups go that small or young. I'm guessing it was hypoglycemia related death. Even though the vet had it on IV drips, the pups must eat too! Pups that small seem to be prone to the low blood sugar problems more that the average. Pups that small have no reserve and can go down very fast and die. Shipping, change of food, shots, leaving their home, will make them not eat real good and boom, your in trouble! This breeder should never have put you in this position of taking on the care of such a tiny pup that had been shipped. This is just my opinion and not the law. If the puppy does not snap out of it enough to eat and get a full stomach, it's all down hill. To get a refund ( I'm guessing) you will have to have your vet say that the pup was not healthy for shipping, and why or the pup died ( breeder related) and here is the proof on paper. Most breeders to not cover for hypoglycemia for the fact that it can happen at anytime and for any reason( #1 not eating!! stress, playing to hard , common up to 12 wks) and then the chances are less, but it can still happen at a older age. I feel so bad for you, what a terrible thing to have to go through!! With all this being said , I don't think she did anything illegal, but it sure was NOT RESPONSIBLE!! Again, I so sorry for your loss

No she shouldn't of shipped the puppy it was to little and to young. But I don't think the breeder will refund your money because you did not do the autopsy to prove the cause of death hypoclycima is not covered under any breeder gaurentee that I know of. I am very very sorry for your loss. That is such a sad story.
