| breeders, please help me For anyone that dos't know my story I'll sum it up. I was sent a pup from a breeder in Missouri to Michigan. Pup was sick and passed away after 6 days at the vet. Breeder did not care and I am now contesting payment through my credit card. What I need are letters from breeders stating how long they have been breeding yorkies and at what age, in their opinion it is safe to ship a yorkie puppy. My furbaby was shipped at 8 weeks 5 days and they wanted to send her a week before that but I waited a week. I have since been told the pups should be 10-12 weeks, 10 weeks beiing rare and it is at 12 weeks that is best. If you can help me by writing a letter and emailing it to me I will be forever greatful. Please PM me if you can help and I will send you my email. Thanks to anyone that can help me. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Most pups are sent 12 weeks or at least 2 pounds. Do you have all of the vet's reports to state the cause of death? Have you had an autopsy done and gotten the reports?

| Yes, I have the vets report but I refused an autopsy because she had been at the vet for 6 days on IV's and was poked and everything else, I decided she had been through enough. My vet did give a report which states his professional opinon. When my pup was sent she was 1.2 pounds. My credit card just wants opinions of breeders that 8 weeks is too young to be shipped. |

| I'm not a breeder but I'm so sorry you're going through this! Shippping a 1.2 lb puppy sounds outrageous!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | oh wow - I'm so sorry to hear that ... You have my condolences Poor little baby - I'm not a breeder, but that sounds way too small to be shipped in MY OPINION - I hope you get the help you need. I can't believe the CC Company wants you to do that - sounds like they're making a sad time even worse....It doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to figure out that a very young TINY puppy is more apt to have problems when shipping (hypoglycemia etc) ......and besides - there could have already been something wrong with her even if she wasn't shipped. Puppies don't die for no reason. |

| seems like that is way too young for shipping, especially when you look at the weight along with the age. Sorry for your loss and what your going thru now trying to recoop your money. good luck on getting that straightened out.

| Legally, the pup has to be at least eight weeks to ship per airline policy. Nothing states weight or anything like that or any breed pertinant info. We all know that is too young and too little to ship yorkies tho. |

| I am so sorry for your loss...did the breeder not have a one year guarantee? Did you have a health contract at all? Do you know why the puppy died, was it hypoglycemia? Shipping at minimum age of 12 weeks and minimum weight of 2 lbs is my protocol. you can use my shipping page if you need it.... http://yorkiepassion.com/shipping.htm hope this helps

| there are puppy lemon laws although most states protect the buyer with a sick or dead puppy... read this Lemon Laws for Pets http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/lemon_intro.html Puppy lemon laws? You bet, but before that tail starts wagging, let's make one thing clear: these laws protect pet purchasers, not pets. States and cities do have animal cruelty laws, of course, but a more recent development is the passage of laws intended to make it easier for pet purchasers to get their money back if that cute puppy turns out to be sick. All of the state laws we examined give purchasers the right to return a sick or dead puppy for a refund or replacement. Most also give consumers the option of retaining the puppy, having it treated and getting some level of reimbursement for veterinary expenses from the seller. We don't yet have summaries of the laws for each state but we're working on it. If yours doesn't appear yet, check with the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division in your state. You can find the address in our Consumer Protection Directory.

| I'm a bit confused??? You didn't actually say what CAUSED her death... what was wrong with her. It seems to me.. and i may be wrong, that just shipping the pup wouldn't cause death. Well what I mean is if it was some sort of Hypoglaucemic(sp?) thing it would have happened right then and you said it was 6 days later she died. Just trying to figure out what's what y the way. Airlines have policy that 8 weeks is the age for shipping so I can't imaging you could win a case on saying 8 weeks is too young since the airline policy is 8 weeks ... Plus you yourself agreed to the shipping date. AND PLEASE no hate mail about the 8 week thing. I did not say I thought it was OK, just the airline policy

| Didn't the puppy need a health cert. to fly? I live in Michigan and had a puppy shipped to me from Alabama but she had a check up the day before and a health cert. (it was required to fly).

| The only thing she was shipped with was what shots she had. I knew as soon as I got her that she wasn't right. I took her to the vet and they kept her, she passed away after being there 6 days. The wanted to run a liver test when she was alive but said she really was too small to get all the blood they needed. I refused an autopsy and the vet's best opinion is that she had a liver shunt. She was hypoglocemic but the vet is adament that it did not cause her death as she was on a glucose IV. The puppy lemon law is interesting though. I am not asking for vet bills which were over a thousand dollars, I just want this lady to refund me so I can purchase from a reputable breeder. This lady has no heart. it's been over a month and she has not even called to say sorry or to even ask if she passed away from something genetic. There were five puppies in the litter, so she is selling away without caring. |
