Hi, I so sorry for your loss! I don't think the breeder did anything illegal, BUT a pup that small should not be sold or for sure not shipped in my opinion. I am a breeder and don't let my pups go that small or young. I'm guessing it was hypoglycemia related death. Even though the vet had it on IV drips, the pups must eat too! Pups that small seem to be prone to the low blood sugar problems more that the average. Pups that small have no reserve and can go down very fast and die. Shipping, change of food, shots, leaving their home, will make them not eat real good and boom, your in trouble! This breeder should never have put you in this position of taking on the care of such a tiny pup that had been shipped. This is just my opinion and not the law. If the puppy does not snap out of it enough to eat and get a full stomach, it's all down hill. To get a refund ( I'm guessing) you will have to have your vet say that the pup was not healthy for shipping, and why or the pup died ( breeder related) and here is the proof on paper. Most breeders to not cover for hypoglycemia for the fact that it can happen at anytime and for any reason( #1 not eating!! stress, playing to hard , common up to 12 wks) and then the chances are less, but it can still happen at a older age. I feel so bad for you, what a terrible thing to have to go through!! With all this being said , I don't think she did anything illegal, but it sure was NOT RESPONSIBLE!! Again, I so sorry for your loss |
