| Does anyone leave their pups in a crate when they go to work? I have a quest.. If you do, does your pup scream and cry like he is being severly hurt? Mine does! OMG, he SCREAMS for dear life!!! Also, do you know how long they do this for? I was wondering if he cries like that the whole time I am gone? When my hubby gets home, about 4 hours after I do (one day a week and then 2 hours after I do another day of the week) he says he is sound asleep and acts like he is bothering him to even take him out of there? I just feel SOOOOOOOOOO bad when I leave!!!! I feel sick all the way to work! I leave him in the crate with toys, a few nice cuddly blankets that he likes, some food and water, this thing is like a PALACE!!! |

| Ahhhhhh poor baby. I have never used a crate. I have a gate that keeps them in the kitchen and Lanai. I close the storm shutters on the lanai so just in case they can't break through the screen. That way it gives them 2 big rooms that are tiled to play in. I then get out all their toys 100 or so & dump them on the floor. It must keep them occupied for a few hours that I'm gone. |

| Okay, this might be taboo, but we have never crated Mojo! (sorry) We bought a crate before we got him (years ago) because we were told it helps in training, it gives them a secure/safe/comfy place to go, it was over-all safer for him, etc. Okay, the truth is, we never put him in there, so we don't know if he whine or now.......we just couldn't bear the thought of this cute, cuddly, sweet little baby not being by us! Even at night, he always slept with us - we never worried about him getting smothered (well, I guess you could say, we did worry) because we would always move and end up being uncomfortable to make sure he was comfortable! Just like most proud Yorkie parents! BUT my circumstances were what most people would probably dream of with a new Yorkie baby! My job (at the time) allowed me to bring him with me to work. I had my own office and I was the only one (beside two other women) in our building. Then, after that, I decided to stay home to school my daughter, so we were with Mojo all the time.........and because of that, I think it was the reason why we never had issues with potty training, etc.

| Oh I crated Hobbs until he was 100% potty trained and I am still currently crating Hootie because she is only 16 weeks old and not potty trained yet. They both would yell and scream when I put them in their crates. They both ended up getting used to them, though. Hootie doesn't cry anymore when I put her in there. One thing that really helped for us is every morning I put my t-shirt that I slept in Hootie's crate. She can smell me the whole time I'm gone so it really helps with the separation anxiety. Don't worry...your little guy is not being hurt. He is just being spoiled! He will definately get used to his crate in no time and actually learn to love it! If you take him out of the crate when he cries, he will ALWAYS cry...so try not to do that. Just ignore him, if possible. |

| I do. when I leave the house the two yorkies will go into one med crate and the golden into a huge one. I alway let them go in by themselves. i give tem there treat and then loves and they only bark when I come home. (happy to see me). I guess it's better when there are two in one to keep company. |

| I will say that I put Hobbs in one of those plastic carrier-type kennels. I had to put him in a real small one because he kept pottying in there! But, Hootie has never pottied in her kennel, so she gets to have a nice big wire one with lots of blankets and such. I think Hootie enjoys her crate a little more than Hobbs did. |

| i know its bad but.... i couldnt keep crating snickers... i have one and had full intentions of crate training but she would cry (which i figured would eventually stop) but the thing that upset me is that no matter how small the crate was she was still pottying on herself- and THAT i couldnt live with and it didnt stop i know they say they wont go where they sleep maybe she was the exception so i gate her in my kitchen w/pee pad litter box and food/water and her bed i know this prob isnt helpful but that was my experience with it |

| Where is the crate in your home? When I put Hootie's crate in my bedroom, she would pitch a fit!!!!!!! But then I moved the crate to the living room so she can see the front door that I come in and out of. Since I moved the crate, she no longer cries when I put her in there and she only wimpers a little when I get home bc she wants to be let out. Maybe you could try moving the crate. Also, make the crate accessible even when you are at home. You want your little one to be able to go in there voluntarily to sleep with the door open when you are at home. When she gets in her crate, always give her a treat. |

| My cat, toy poodle and little Abbey are crate trained. They all have wonderful large crates. Now, however, only Abbey stays in her crate when we are gone. She doesn't seem to mind a bit. She also sleeps in it at night. She starts out in our bed with the others and at 10pm I put her in her crate for the night and she goes right to sleep. When we are gone to work, we put the crate in the living room, add toys, food and water. Turn on the tv and say good bye. It just has not been a problem for us. I agree with what another said about not taking her out when she cries or whines. Also, I read that making a big deal about leaving is a mistake. Just leave. I had to do that with our birds. They would scream when I left. Now, I just say I'll be back and leave. They are much quieter, now. Good luck. Ellie |

| I do too Rocky get put in his crate everytime we leave the house. I has really never bothered him, but we have been crating him since I brought him home. It feel that it is safer for him (the cat and my house) then running round the house all day by himself. I just tell him to go get in his box, and he grabs his bear and goes in it with no problems. |

| When neither of us are home during the day we put Howie in his crate. He didn't like it at first. He would bark and bark and bark so loud we could hear him outside at the car. But it was only for a few minutes. Once they know you aren't coming back they find other ways to entertain themselves - usually just chewing on a toy or sleeping. Also, we always leave a fan on or something with a low background noise so he doesn't go crazy if he hears anything outside. Really, your yorkie is just being a baby. They know that if they cry, we come running. Your yorkie will adjust to the crate eventually. But if you're that concerned about how long the dog is crying for you can always leave a tape recorder there!

| I put Mia in her crate if we are leaving for a couple of hours. If we are going to be gone for longer than 3 hrs, we set up her xpen in the kitchen. Mia used to cry, bark and make noises that I never thought possible at first, but she got used to it eventually. She sleeps in her crate at night, so she knows its sleepy time when she gets in the crate. As long as she ran around, played, and went piddle before going in her crate, she just goes to sleep. If she is full of energy or needs to go potty, she lets us know, and we make sure her needs are taken care of before we leave. Good luck. I am sure you'll be fine.

| I have put some pets in a crate before. but i do not now. I find someone to babysit my dogs or they are gated in my kitchen which is large. My daughter pens her dogs in a crate and she is gone for hours. he is very mischief when he is out. I do not think it is wrong to crate them but, if you can figure out another way that is better, great, How ever my Buddy was crated and now he lays in his crate all the time open. It is what is best for you and your situation and your furbaby.. good luck

| I keep Gracie in her ex-pen. She has a crate in the ex-pen, the door to the crate is left open. She screams bloody murder when I head out the door, but she quiets shortly after.
