When neither of us are home during the day we put Howie in his crate. He didn't like it at first. He would bark and bark and bark so loud we could hear him outside at the car. But it was only for a few minutes. Once they know you aren't coming back they find other ways to entertain themselves - usually just chewing on a toy or sleeping. Also, we always leave a fan on or something with a low background noise so he doesn't go crazy if he hears anything outside. Really, your yorkie is just being a baby. They know that if they cry, we come running. Your yorkie will adjust to the crate eventually.

But if you're that concerned about how long the dog is crying for you can always leave a tape recorder there!
