I put Mia in her crate if we are leaving for a couple of hours. If we are going to be gone for longer than 3 hrs, we set up her xpen in the kitchen.
Mia used to cry, bark and make noises that I never thought possible at first, but she got used to it eventually. She sleeps in her crate at night, so she knows its sleepy time when she gets in the crate.
As long as she ran around, played, and went piddle before going in her crate, she just goes to sleep. If she is full of energy or needs to go potty, she lets us know, and we make sure her needs are taken care of before we leave.
Good luck. I am sure you'll be fine.
