| Amber - Don't feel bad about not going back to the vet now. Your little guy may do just fine. And, you can go back to the vet in a day or two - if he doesn't continue to get better. If he's not in pain and is comfortable, it won't hurt him at all to wait a day or two. ***** Having worked in radiology for some 25 years - I can tell you that there are some fractures that don't even show up for a week or so -- especially hairline fractures. The reason for this is that they are so slight (with no displacement) that they don't even show up on an x-ray -- but a week later after healing has begun (new bone formation) - it is the new bone formation that shows up on the x-ray - but not the original fracture. This is common with rib fractures. So - cross your fingers and wait a couple days. Like I said - if your pup doesn't continue to get better or appears to worsen --- off to the vet you go. PS: I am sure he probably at least has a bruise - and this may well bother him and be sore for a few days. You might notice this when his pain medication wears off. He probably will have a sore little foot for a while. Carol Jean |

| Awww.. Poor thing. Years ago (will not say how many ) I had a tiny little Shihtzu that I just LOVED. He seemed so small well, One day my 4yo was going out and got him in the door. I thought he would be allright after checking all appendages and found no injury. Later that day he would yelp when eating and I couldnt figure it out. Checked inside his mouth for broken teeth etc and the dog went nuts. I took him to my vet and he had a broken jaw . There was nothing they could do for it and it healed ok but it sure was painful for the little guy, Bonnie |

| How long are you suppose to keep him on pain meds? I know what you mean by not wanting an x-ray if not needed, they are so expensive, but how do we know for sure. If he wasn't on pain meds, I wonder if it would hurt him to walk and run, or for you to even feel his foot. It's a tough call, but only you know what you're comfortable with doing. Wishing you and your baby the best!!

| To be honest, I don't appreciate what your vet said to you or how he spoke to you. I would take him to another vet for the x-ray and I would definitely get the x-ray. But that's just me -- I'm close to paranoid with my babies. If they so much as sneeze, I want to rush them to the vet! LOL! But I really did have something to worry about before. My little Katie (who passed on to the Rainbow Bridge almost 1 year ago -- rest in peace baby) started losing some weight -- NOT A LOT -- but some. But I really didn't think anything of it. So I waited a few weeks and then she lost some more weight and I got suspicious and took her to the vet. After running lots of tests and doing blood work, we found out she had kidney disease. Now keep in mind that she didn't pass away from the kidney disease -- she was tragically killed when she was hit by a car. But I still regret everyday not taking her to the vet sooner. It's not like I waited months or years ... probably 3 weeks. But I wish I would have done it IMMEDIATELY. I still feel the guilt of waiting and I will never forgive myself for that. That's just something I have to live with. But I can tell you this, I will NEVER make that mistake again. My vet must be sick of seeing me but I don't care ... if my babies show ANY signs that something could be wrong (even a cold), we go to the vet that day (or night -- yes, the ER vet has seen me several times too LOL). So yes, I would still take Peeka to ANOTHER vet (I don't like your vet -- he just didn't speak to you in a respectful way) and have an x-ray done. I hope all is well with your baby. Get well soon Peeka!! Codie and Tia send kisses!

Donating Member | he's supposed to be on meds for 5 days he seems to be doing fine on and off just a little flinch here and there when not on meds but running jumping plying fine and also it wasn't the vet i like to see that i seen yesterday so if i take him back i will take him to the other vet. It's such a hard deision to make i mean if i really had the money right this min i would take him and not care i'm just in between checks right now so cash is a little tight.

| Awww poor Peeka! I would have felt horrible hearing that scream or cry for help from your baby. I am paranoid with Diamond and I try to constantly look down before I walk since she is always at my feet. I am sure you learned from this experience as we all have but you have to watch them 24/7, especially when someone is opening/closing the door. I hope Peeka is doing better. I think I would take the dog to the vet just to be sure but that is me. That way, if something happens or it gets worse, you can't blame yourself or feel guilty. Have you thought about getting pet insurance? I pay around $25-$30 a month and they cover a lot of things. I am getting Diamond spayed in August and they are paying for that, it's pretty nice! You just send in a claim from the vet stating what they had done and then the insurance company sends you a check once they approve the claim. Kisses to Peeka from Diamond
