| Breeds created from mutts of the past were made for a reason. For a type of job. Very few were companions only. There is no need for any more new breeds for work we have plenty. The Brewier is still a yorkie. Just of a different color. Just as breeding for a better ear set in your line only they chose to breed the color. Much different than than mixing a designer mutt. Sorry, I am a breeder and do believe in breeding, but not for mutts (on purpose) as long as there are plenty needing adoption already. |

One of the main reasons I will never rescue a dog from the pound is because I have had several bad experiences with pound dogs. One dog that I got from a pound/rescue had a mean streak in him. I loved him to death but he caused my 10 year old step brother to get stitches in his face! He also bit the entire family including me! I don't want to go through that again. I loved him so much and I didn't want to give him away! I just had to! So the next time I consider getting a dog that isn't purebred, it will be from a reputable breeder where I know what I'm getting! Whether the litter was an accident or on purpose. As long as the breeder's dogs and puppies are well taken care of and I can trust the breeder, I'll get one! I like mixed breeds, but I am too scared to get another pound dog!

| I agree with Midge5353 that you can not find a small breed dog in the pound. After my maltese died 3 years ago, I couldn't afford to buy another dog and I also felt that somewhere there might be a little dog needing a new home. So I checked the pounds for many weeks. Any small dog there had a waiting list a mile long then they draw names to see who actually gets him/her. Also you have to be very careful when choosing a dog at the pound especially when you have children in your home. Mixed breed dogs can also be appealling because they have some attributes of the breed you want and not usually the high cost. I don't personally feel $400-600 is all that bad when most maltese or yorkies in my area can be $1500-3000. I'm not a fan of breeding them together because I have so much love for the individual characteristics of each of these breeds. But each to their own. Cute is cute no matter what! |

| Great link for a history of the Yorkshire Terrier and the Biewer Yorkie which is recognized as a "breed unto itself" according to the article. http://www.geocities.com/bieweryorkieassociation/pages/history.htmllf". |

| I'll just throw out there the fact that it took me a year to find my Yorkie mix, one that matched my family and requirements. She was $100 and I got her through petfinder.com - yes, it's not as easy as going to someone who breeds mixes, but it is possible.

| Just what the world needs.....more mixed breed dogs! Are there not enough of them dying on the streets and in the kill shelters to suit people? I think it is terrible and irresponsible of this "breeder" to be compromising so many breeds! Generations of responsible breeders must be rolling over in their graves to know some idiot is undoing all their efforts. Hope I didn't offend anyone here, but this is the way I feel. The puppies are adorable, and it isn't their fault, but I wouldn't support this "breeders" efforts by buying one of her puppies. |

I agree with your other post regarding the animal shelters. I tried adopting from the shelters...cause to be honest I feel bad for the animals there in need of homes. But before getting my bichon(1st dog) I went with my husband and we adopted a jack russell. Shockingly the only time I was able to since they are always wanted and there is a waiting list for small breeds. To make a long story short...she was the most depressing dog I've ever been with. Lookin at her made me wanna cry. She wouldnt do anything other than lay in a corner. I also have 2 young kids so u know they wanted a doggie that wld eventually play and stuff. I adopted her thinkin she was 2yrs old as posted but turns out the dog was prob about 5yrs old. She also had problems and everytime she ate she wld gag and throw up. Her name was Lucy but realizing that we didnt know what we were gettin ourselves into since she was already showin problems...the shelter is understanding and took her back. Of course I cried for days cause I quickly get attached to animals. They reimbursed us the adoption fee and we just donated half of it. Adoption here is $100. I also feel adoption isnt for everyone. There are people out there seeking a certain type of pet(like urself). Now when I get older and my kids are all grown up I'll happily try adopting again and or foster caring for the spca.

| I dunno. There is a difference between a mixed pup on the street or in the pound and a mixed pup who is from a reputable breeder who treats them like a purebred. Most pound dogs come from people who didn't spay or neuter their pet. If someone breeds Yorkies and Malteses and decides to mix for a litter, I dont see what the problem is. The breeder treats them like purebreds and they go to good homes. If people whose not fixed dog had puppies and the breeder put them in newspaper, I can guarantee you someone out there would call. But instead they send them to the pound. There's a big difference there! That's just my opinion and I hope I didn't offend anyone. |

| I don't think anyone is offended. It's just a subject that every one usually has an opinion on. It's good to discuss these opinions, I think. You're going to do what YOU think is right in the long run, we'll just give you our advice and you can take it or leave it - no problems with that

| I think people will buy as we know whatever type of pup they want. Whether it is a purebreed or a complete mutt or 50 50 of 2 known purebreeds. I think what is most important is that a person is happy with the choice they have made and that the puppy they get is a healthy one with a good temperament. Nothing is better than another in my opinion. I'm sure all of us prob feel our babies are the cutest and possibly the best cause thats the way pet ownership is. I dont like to see a family or individual go out to get a new pup and have to come home to what turns out to be a sick pup. What should be a enjoyable moment turns into running back and forth to a vet to better the animal. Unfortunately we see alot of this going on with the purebreeds being sold. Atleast I know I have. Especially read alot of it in this forum. So all because a person decides to purebreed or cross breed 2 purebreeds, I think it is ones choice. The buyers are the one that then chooses what they want. It is more likely they will get a pup with less of a chance of developing genetic problems if it is a crossbreed. To each their own...I dnt see anything wrong with it, as long as its not being done with the intentions of trying to make a new breed or whatever. Perhaps breeders get upset cause they are being sold. Hey Jessica Simpson has a maltipoo and then all of a sudden tons of people want one. |
