| Wow what a hot topic! Don't really understand why it is but, meh =\ I guess I'm lucky to live in Toronto, one of the most dog friendly large cities in North America. Dogs are allowed on public transit, this includes street cars, buses and the subway. They only places they are not allowed are establishments with open food. So restaurants and grocery stores are out as well as large malls that have food courts. Other than that it's pretty much all good. I don't take her with me all the time but I live downtown so most things are a short walk away. So a lot of times I kill two birds with one stone so to speak. I need laundry detergent and my yorkie needs a walk I just go to the pharmacy get what I want and Sheila gets a walk . I always thought yorkies were hypoallergenic so I don't get the allergy argument, maybe I'm wrong? To be polite (and it's easier) I always pick up my little 3 1/2 pound girl when I go into a store. I've NEVER had a problem and very often am thanked for bringing her in. Toronto really is an awesome place (for a metropolis) to own a dog. |

| Emmie and I have a new one to report - haven't heard this one mentioned - we live in a small town of about 2500 people - I know I mentioned on the other thread being asked very rudely to leave Dollar General after we had been in there many, many times before. When I noticed they had put up their refrigerated units for milk and ice cream I made it a point to ask if she was still allowed in and was told it was absolute okay. When I rushed in last Father's Day (the first Father's Day after my own father had been run over and killed and understandably a vey difficult day for me), some woman behind the counter literally screamed at me that I could not bring "that dog" in there. So I left and have never been back. But, get this, my husband and I take care of an 86 year old man here who has no family - we adopted him 12 years ago when his wife died (they married late in life and had no children) and all their family had died before them so he was pretty much alone except for his church family. Anyway, he has cancer and had fallen and broken his hip - he was in and out of our local hospital several times last year. We always call him Emmie's "grandpa Johnny" and she loves to go and visit "grandpa." We were told that by all means we could bring Emmie as much as possible to visit her grandpa!!! And this in a hospital!!! Granted he was in respite care, in a private room, but still, if a hospital would let her in and her not be a therapy dog, it is hard to believe Dollar General would have a problem!!! Anyway, just thought I would throw that little tidbit in. I thought it was kind of neat, as he was always so happy to see her and if we didn't bring her each day we came, he always asked where she was and when she would be back. Emmie and Izzie B's momma

| Twinkie is a little too exciteable to just "sneak" into places. I have to clip her into her carriers at all times or she might just superman out when she sees a person she likes! My Princess chihuahua, who I got before I got Twinkie, used to come with me ALMOST EVERYWHERE when she was a puppy. I felt too bad locking her up and leaving her at home - man did I have separation anxiety. She was soooo small that I could fit her in one of my small regular purses, so that was where she would be, and she would just lay in there and sleep. I admit I did take her to the pub a few times in her purse since my bf would randomly decide to go there after his soccer games & not drive me home first (they didn't care since they sponsored the team, plus it was always Sunday afternoons) - it was cute, soccer was always so tiring for her that she would curl up in her purse and sleep on my chair. I never took her out with me for the attention as it got annoying having people stopping me so I would pretend not to hear them or block the opening of her carrier with my arm as I walked. Some people go so gaga for them like they've never seen a dog before. I don't take her out as much anymore since people are always asking to hold her and take her out of her carrier, plus I have the 2 dogs and she's bigger - I mean not that 5 lbs is big. She is ridiculous though, she loves to go out so much that I have to keep ALL my dog carriers off the floor at all times or she will crawl inside and go to sleep - she will do this over sleeping in my bed or any of her beds!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Wow....this got LONG .....I had posted way back on page one....and want to add that if I only had ONE yorkie...I also would probably take her to more places. When Chanel was an only child ...I did take her with me quite often. What did happen eventually was she thought she would get to go "Bye Bye" every time I left the house and got really upset when I didn't take her. I also didn't do it for attention..I did it because I LOVE seeing her happy face when she gets to ride in the car. When we got Cheri it was too hard to manage 2...they stay with their dad and it works out great. They're not alone and I can leave knowing their ok. BUT...if I still only had one yorkie... I would for sure take her with me more often. |

| I am lucky, I live someplace that has a dog friendly mall, lots of pet boutiques and stores and several eaterys that welcome dogs on the patio. I do not, nor do I think I should, take my dogs places they aren't welcome. It is uncomfortable for me. So if I need to go anywhere that I know won't allow my pets or if I am unsure they stay at home. I would like to add that myy dogs do LOVE to go and I enjoy the company of them when I do take them which anymore seems to be more often than not... |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | I just stumbled on this thread, but it's exactly the point I'm debating right now. Dogs are not allowed at the start of the Iditarod, for obvious reasons. You don't want pets distracting the athletes. But for me to go to the restart of the Iditarod means leaving Eddie and Jack home alone for more hours than I allow them to be home alone. Do I put them in a carrier and try my luck bringing them to the event or do I abuse them and leave them home alone for 8 hours? I chose Plan C: I'm not going to the restart. I'm staying home with my dogs.

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | Sorry for you thinking I was attacking you, I wasent! But this is what you said, I don't bring my dog anywhere he's not allowed. I am never even bringing him to Petsmart again after our last trip because he was miserable. He pooed on the floor as soon as we got there and then wanted me to carry him the whole time. He kept jumping up on me. It's hard to carry a dog and shop (was shopping for my gift exch buddy). I was simply saying it was my opinion that he sounded anti social, if he wants you to carry him, and he poo'd on the floor, he sounds scared, he sounded to me he is not use to going places, Sorry if you took it the wrong way! |

| I don't take Brutus anywhere. He gets carsick and the last time I took him to Petco he was barking and growling at every dog in there. I thought they were going to ask us to leave! It's just too much of a hassle for me and not worth the aggravation.

| If the door says "No Pets!" then Bugaboo can't go. But you'd be surprised how many doors don't say that.

| Alot of people assume that I take my yorkie everywhere with me, but I don't. We go to Petco, dog cafe and things like that for an outing. Sometimes if I'm doing a quick errand he comes along, but for shopping and longer trips I find it too hard to deal with him. It's like having a small child with me. |
