Donating YT 14K Club Member | I don't know what to do. Well, guys, this past Friday, Rebel dug out of our backyard. I was very fortunate to find him. A lady that lived on the street behind us had him. Friday morning, she went to a garage sale up the street and saw Rebel running down the side walk. After much coaxing, she got him to come to her where she took him home, bathe him and crated him till I could come get him...actually, she was taking a bath when I called so I had to wait till she was finished. I offered her a reward which she refused to take. Bless her for all that she did and for being honest. Anyway, when I brought him home, I crated him (for 2 hours) and noticed that he wasn't the same ole Rebel that I knew. Well, we went to my mom's for the weekend and left shortly after I got home from work. Loading up 2 kids, 2 dogs, 2 puppies plus all of our bags was quite a chore. Well, shortly after we got to my mom's house, I noticed that he was growling at everyone and everything. I picked him up to see if anything was wrong with him and he tried to bite me. I settled him down, checked him good all over and didn't see anything. Checked his legs, etc and everything was fine. He tried biting the puppies so I had to keep them in a seperate room of the house. Picked him up on a second occasion and he tried to bite me again. Tried to bite the kids and was just not his normal self. We went to bed Friday night and on Saturday, he was better but really just didn't like the puppies which is strange because he always played with them. He no longer tried to bite us but would just growl at the pups and stayed glued to my mom's maltese's side. She has been spayed so it wasn't like she was in heat. Well, today, everything was fine. Rebel was his old self until it got time to leave. For whatever reason, he got extremely aggrivated, tried to bite one of the puppies and them peed right on the tile floor. He had not done this at all this weekend but it seemed to be more out of defiance to me than anything else. Talked it over with mom and she said she'd keep him this week and bring him back home on Sunday. We thought that maybe Rebel needed a break from us. I just hope that we didn't make a bad decision. Hubby is going to extend the electric wire down the fence line that he's dug out of. The ground is very soft there since that part of the fence was replaced this past year. What do you think? Do you think that he just needed a break? I keep thinking that while he was out, people might have chased him and that traumatized him. Told hubby what was going on (since he didn't go with us) and he's at a loss too.

| If that is totally new behavior I would say that something has happened to scare him. Poor Rebel maybe the time away will help him. That was nice of your Mom to take him in for a week.

| Poor sweet Rebel!! I really think someone chased him or maybe tried to catch him or even hurt him. It sounds like he is just really scared and just doesn't know what to do. I'm sure he will calm down and be the sweet little guy he's always been. Hope he's ok!!! Chloe sends love and kisses! Joy |

| This is really odd behavior and I wish I had some advise for you. I don't think you did a bad thing giving him a break with your Mom at all. Im sooo happy your neighbor took such good care of him while he was away from you.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Oh poor little guy - something MUST have traumatized him ...but how lucky you were to get him back and what a nice neighbor to take him into her home ! I would have freaked OUT I know what kind of fence you probably have because I'm in Texas too and Cheri loves to dig....My backyard is now full of Carpet Samples up against the base of my fence and boards so she cannot dig under it .....Texas soil is too easy to dig thru and that's why I lay down the Carpet and tile - plus it keeps their feet cleaner...Have you thought of something like that ? It's not pretty but DOES work Do you think him travelling will be the right thing to do ? It may make him more uneasy being away from his home that he knows....I don't know what to tell you bacause I know you have the babies too in the house.....Poor Rebel - he may have gotten too adventerous for his own good here and I'm SO GLAD you found him ! |

| Maybe he's mad at you for "letting" him out in the wild alone? I could be wrong, but that's what I was thinking. Hope he's okay and back to his old self soon.

I bet he adjusts - how long was he gone ? I hope no one hurt him while he was out....it could be that he is mad cause he was off on a big adventure and thought he was having fun - little do they know how dangerous it is out there for them these days - between other dogs and people who kidnap them - he really is a lucky boy ! I feel so bad....but maybe give him some time and some sleep and maybe he'll be his old self ? | |

| Someone stole my Austr. Cattle Dog, Dingo, years ago. He was tied to the porch INSIDE my fence. They came in and took him and then let him loose. We always thought they took him to breed their female. He was picked up by Animal Control. I had called and told them he was missing, and even though his collar and tags were missing when they picked him up, they called me to come and see if it was him. It was. I put him in my car, and he turned his back on me and looked out the window. He would not look at me. It was as if he was mad at me for letting him be taken. He did get over it, but it took a few days. It was as if he thought everything he went through was all my fault, and I guess it was. But after a few days he was his old self. So I think there is hope for Rebel. I think he will get over being mad at you (and the world) and go back to being his old self in time. Be patient and good luck. |
