| Ollie help So I’m hoping for encouragement and even opinions. I have never had a dog like Ollie. Callie, Joey and Penny are very out going they love people, going places and just seem like well adjusted dogs. Ollie is very opposite he shys away from people and if he thinks we are going somewhere or we get the harnesses out he hides. I have done three different types of training classes with him. I try to expose him to things and make things happy when we go places but his tail stays down and he will shake sometimes. When he is with his siblings at home he is better then when I take him out by himself but if people come over he stays right by me the whole time. He has gotten a little better since when we first got him but not massively. I didn’t get him until he was almost 6 months old and the breeder had not socialized him to anything and honestly I think the pups were kept in a basement or outside building. I just don’t know what to do with him. Do I keep pushing or let him be? I don’t want to have to give him anxiety medicine to be able to go to a training class or pet expo, I just want him to enjoy them like the others.

| Every pup is different just like people are different. I would not force a pup to do something he obviously didn't enjoy; and, I definitely would not give him anxiety meds so he would comply with what I wanted for him. My advice for what it's worth: accept him for the pup he is and enjoy him....and let him enjoy you!

| You might just have to accept that he is just not interested in going out and about like your other pups. When you have people over it is probably important that he have a “safe place” where guest will not bother him while they are at your house. Does he love to do tricks or agility? Those can be confident builders for some dogs but others would just like to stay behind the scene. I would just try to create the world that he is most comfortable in. If he does not like the expo I would not take him, but try to do what he loves. You know your dogs better than anyone and can read their mods and likes, and it sounds like he is just different than your others. They are all so cute, of course

As to people in the home for large gatherings, as long as he has his own spot to retreat to if he chooses, he should be fine. I would not medicate a pup because he didn't like to be with large groups of people. I have multiple pups and each has his/her own personality and likes/dislikes. My Kiche hates being around a lot of people so I rarely take him out. He is happy as a clam at home with his siblings and with me. When I have company, he usually retreats to my office.

| We have a beginners pop up agility class today if it doesn't go well for him I think I will just mess with him at home for awhile and maybe try another class in a few months or do a class that I can take him and either Joey or Penny to also. I don't think I can leave him a home for the couple of big pet expos we go to though because they are usually almost 2 hours away and no one would be home with him which I think he would hate too. He relaxes a bit ridding in the stroller with Callie and I have been thinking about maybe trying a sling. I was just always told pushing them a little and exposing them to things helps and I think we are past the point with him or that just isn't his style. He has loosened up at the vet a bit but his siblings are normally with him. I also ways feel like I have each one of my babies for a certain reason and I think I have him because I can give him the care and understanding and not just get mad at him or something like some people might do. He is my little hyper yet cuddle bug at home.

| I am just guessing but it sounds like the first 6 months of his life were hard and made a lasting imprint on his personality. All you can do is just nurture him and give him an environment that promotes socialization, which it sounds like you are doing. Just go slow, as this is definitely not an overnight fix and "pushing" socialization on him could make things worse. As much as you love your babies I am sure this will work out in time. Good luck!

| Ok so I have great news. He really did great at the agility after getting the hang of it and after he seemed so confident. I don’t expect him to be a champion or anything but it seems like this maybe a way to help boost his confidence. He did the A frame like a pro with only a little encouragement and by the end he did the blind jump. I think this might be his thing.
