| Teddy is my first yorkie (he's a parti), and I have to say that he was the easiest dog I have every potty trained. I know alot of people have problems with that, but he was a breeze, it took only about 3 weeks. He sleeps in bed with me now that he is fully trained, before that he slept in his crate. I work full time and he is very good during the day if/when no one is home. He's usually alone between 3-5 hours and he has no issues, although he is very happy to see me when I get home. He meets me at the door and from then on he is attached to my side whether we're playing or he's just hanging out in my lap. He's pretty easy going, but the person who said that you don't own Yorkies, Yorkies own you is absolutely correct He has me wrapped around his little paw, and he knows it! Long story short, he is the best pet I've ever had. I wish I could have ten just like him. Good luck with your decision!

YT 3000 Club Member | yorkies do not shed but they needed to be trimmed depending on how long you want their hair, little dogs in general can have knee problems, and teeth issues especially the smaller they are. papillons shed, as do chiuhas spelling and pomeranians have to be combed out, they can get matted up. The little dogs are always harder to potty train, my firlfriend has a pom and she is a little terror, this is her second one, I personally do not care for them. Yorkies are more people oriented it seems and they love their people. |

| Welcome to YT. Murfee is my first yorkie and I feel so blessed to have him. I have had all kinds of dogs, big and little. Murfee is 4 and so far we have had NO health issues, he was very easy to housebreak, travels well in the car and goes everyplace with us. I groom him myself....and I am no expert. I keep him usually fairly short....maybe an inch or so. He gets a bath at least once a week and I can bathe and dry him usually in less than 10 minutes. We live in the country so he doesn't usually go for walks unless we are out camping and then hubby takes him "hunting". All in all, I have NO complaints whatsoever. I will admit he pouts when he doesn't get his way. Good luck, Patty

| I am another new Yorkie Mom! But, in my two months with PookieBear I have done extensive research. It's all over the internet. Yorkies are really, really intelligent. They love their toys and can get quite possessive over them. They need to be socialized, then socialized some more. People will tell you they are yappy, and I have seen some that are. But you can control that because they are so smart. I would definitely choose the Yorkie. They are very loving and playful. A Yorkie will cost you more than the Chiuaua, but it is money well spent. Your Yorkie will be with you for years and years. Get the Yorkie, definitely. |

| thanks darlene for the welcome! My boy passed in Feb 08. I still cry for him, but because of him, i know i cant live without a precious furbaby to give my love to, and to get all the love they have. there is nothing like a yorkie.ive had about i guess 5,and love them all.the last lost his leg as a puppy when someone let him out of the house.maybe it made me closer if possible as i took him everywhere and even carried him on my walks.i miss him so much and cant wait for that love to be in my heart again! deb |

| New Owner with question! I too, am a new owner. Although I've had dogs all my life, I've never had a Yorkie. I got my new little girl, Annie from a rescue (4.5 months old - 3.5lbs). Someone was keeping her in a rabbit hutch to breed her and the 1st 3 months of her life she had very little human contact. I've now had her for a month and vet and groomer say she's it really good health for her experience. She can now run up and DOWN stairs. I'm pad training her and we're 95% there! Treats are a wonderful incentive! I doubt she'll ever be a "Jump in your lap and kiss your face" kind of dog but she is socializing much better than before. I only work 3 days a week and the boss lets me bring her to work! Everyone loves her and she has now started hanging in other people's offices instead of being always under my feet. We still have a way to go but we make progress daily! I'm trying to learn all the ins and outs of Yorkies and the only problem I notice with Annie is the excessive tears from her eyes. She tears so much that it will actually drip off her chin..... I had the groomer do a puppy cut and trim all the hair from around her eyes but that didn't change anything. I wash her face and dry it every night but is there anything else I should be doing?? I'd appreciate any advise! |
