| How to manage sleep As a newbie, I feel I'm asking too many dumb questions, but maybe someone knows just what to do as this will be my first night with my puppy at 11 weeks. Did anyone sleep with their dog? Did you put the cage in your room? He doesn't seem to like it. How do they use peeped pads while your sleeping? Should he sleep beside me with cage in the room? I just don't want him to cry alone in another room. Please be specific with your answers. I live in an apartment after I downsized my home so I don't have the luxury of putting him in a far away room. Thank you. |

| I knew all along that I would have Jackson in my bed eventually. I just wanted him first to be safe & of course not deal with pottying in the bed. I resorted to a soft sided crate ON my bed with me LOL. That way I could comfort him by being right beside him but knew he was still safe in the crate so could sleep easier. We had a few weeks of a middle of the night potty trip... I remember our schedule being like 9pm let out, then we would try to go to sleep, he would wake up around 1-2am again for a pee break and then wake up again around 7 or 8am. Didn't last long though. The first night I let him sleep out of the crate was the first night he slept through the night, and the rest was history. He was strictly outdoor trained though - not pads.

| You should put the crate in your room where she can see you. If she starts crying ignore it but if she falls asleep and then wakes up crying take her potty then put her back. Crates or play pens are so much safer to keep them in at night when they are pups.

| No question is ever a"dumb"question, this is how you learn,by asking. My now passed babies as puppies slept in a crate in my room beside my bed. Their first week in their new home they would cry, I would reach down so they could smell my hand and knew they were not alone.

| So my first night I decided to sleep with him. Best night sleep I ever had! He was so good I put pillows around so not to go over edge and he was in a big blanket. When I got up twice to go myself, I brought him to peep pad where he went. He also pooped on the pad when he woke up. WOW. Is this really happening? How is it he's already known how to poop? A couple times after he ate I sat in the bathroom with him as that's where the pads are and closed the door. He just went on them. That's also a good tip to do that. Just wait in there and they go! I'm sure I'm not 'out of the woods' yet as to the potty training but it's ok. Sort of feel a bit confined as he won't let me leave the house...cries too loud in cage..he's just 2 pounds and 11 weeks old...don't know how I'm gonna attend doctor apps next week, might take him with me. |

| That's wonderful he's using the pads. I would not take him with you to the Dr. you will never be able to leave him home alone if you start this. He has to get use to be home alone, if he cries you won't be home to hear him. I know he is a wee lil baby, but being home alone is part of training process. I don't like to recommend this because dogs need to adjust to being alone at times, but, is there anyone you can ask to stay in your house while you go to the Dr.I really do not advise taking a baby that has not had all his vaccines even if he is in a crate and his feet never touch the ground.

| Great news that he's using pads. There are times I wish Marcie was trained on pads other than outdoors. Example....when I have the flu. |

| Lovetodream......His vaccines are Monday, but I forgot he has to go back in couple weeks and another after that. But he can still go outside right? I feel so uneducated until I see the vet tomorrow morning. CAN"T WAIT! Also, he isn't eating much since I brought him home on Friday. He picks but never REALLY eats, and I have him on Pro-Plan 75% and Wellness 20% so I can wean him over...any suggestions? |

| He has been sleeping with me since I brought him home. Last night he slept on top of my head..he's just 2 pounds! I didn't even know he was there until I woke up for my own p time, and I just take him with me to also go and he does. Just a very short explanation without turning this into a sad topic. My son passed away three years ago at 25, and I buried my husband in November from CHF at age 54 in which he's had for 12 years. My heart is completely broken, as I do have another son and a grand daughter, but they live far away and we Facetime a lot and I am alone now, so the dog brings me a bit of happiness, and don't feel as lonely. That is why he sleeps with me. I love this dog, and he will be my constant companion. Very spoiled. Just wanted to explain as to why I do the things I do. My faith gets me through all. Sorry, I never tell my personal life and I'm sure you all have your own personal sufferings, but this is a thread about our dogs and we'll leave it as such...glad I found this site. |

Letting this baby walk out doors before fully vaccinated he could pick up PARVO which is DEADLY.....Sorry for the loss of your DH and your son and I can understand why this little baby means the world to you, but you have to do what is best for that puppy and that is to NOT take him outdoors until 2 weeks after he has had his last vaccine to ensure the vaccine is absorbed in his system. You will have a life time to be out and about with him waiting several weeks is not a big sacrifice, we all have gone through this. Enjoy this lil baby.

| You can also get a webcam to check on him from your smart phone. This way you can see his behavior and make any necessary corrections to help him get over an separation anxiety he may have if he has it. I highly recommend a webcam....... |
