| ![]() you mentioned that this is your first yorkie, this is something you might not know because i did not with my first one and since you are walking him it's best for these little ones to use a harness to attach the leash to, don't attach it to the collar because you don't want to pull at their neck and if you ever have to lift him off the ground in a hurry like say a big dog is approaching off leash you don't want to do it by the neck. Also make sure you get a little name tag with your phone number on it for his collar especially since you said he likes to escape. I know it can be overwhelming with all the things to think of, i am on my 5th yorkie in 30 years and still keep learning new things.

| ![]() lillymaeI'm not real well-versed in the nuances of ok/not ok food. Why is turkey not good for our little ones? I know the biggies like onions, garlic, chocolate, etc. I always appreciate knowing how best to care for Piper (who, by the has been getting FreshPet mixed with kibble). Thank you so much! |

| ![]() Mr. Pooch, is still not eating well. I cooked some chicken breast and cut it up in the Science Diet, he picked out the chicken and ate it. Still not eating treats; I tried peanut butter on a dog biscuit and on a spoon, would not touch it. I could just really give the person who abandon him a good old military DI chewing out. The vet said he about 21/2 yrs. old. I went for a oil change and their was a young lady their asking if anyone wanted a dog. The other three customers and myself all said no. Then she goes away and comes back with Mr. Pooch, the others all had dogs, but he melted my heart. I live in a college town and sometimes the students are so irresponsible about pets. They get them, don't proper care for them and leave and leave the pet. Our local shelter this past Christmas was begging the community to come in an adopt and all fees were waived because so many poor babies had been left. I and the young lady agreed for me to take him the next day, she literally throw him at me and almost left her pocketbook in the haste to leave him. Yet, Mr. Pooch still loved her. We human beings could learn so much about love from our pets. I feel he and I are bonding, he's starting to follow me around the house. But I have to be careful, received a package and forgot he was behind me, and yes thank God the mailman got him before he could take off. I would be terrified as their are now wild coyotes roaming our area. Everyone, thanks again for all the kind words and encouragement. I friend is suppose to come over help me take the picture and upload it to this wonderful site. God bless all, Ed and Mr. Pooch |

| ![]() he wrote 2 1/2 half years, but LOL i almost missed it also Ed with his escape tendencies did you get him a tag yet for his collar, you can make them right while you wait at the large pet store chains. We had a scare with my Lola on Sunday, i was out in front of house and my husband did not realize the garage door was up and he was painting near our inside door to the garage and left if open a crack, well Lola got out, luckily i came in just a few moments later and asked where's Lola since she had been watching me through the door just moments before. What a scary feeling especially since my leg is currently in a brace and i can not move fast. The first thing we do is run to the street because if she is on the other side i don't want to call her and have her come running into traffic, so my husband went to the street and i got a squeaky toy, then when there was no cars coming we called her and squeaked the toy, she came running from the back yard all excited from her adventure and to get her toy, she was happy while both our hearts were beating out of control, then i noticed her collar was still off from the bath i had given her a few hours before and i felt guilty for not putting it right back on, so LOL you can see even after 30 years of having yorkies how quickly something could have gone wrong. I hope you don't mind me sharing my stories I just want you to learn from my mistakes ![]()

| ![]() Did you have your vet check this pup for a microchip? Someone may be looking for him. They get matted quickly when out on their own, so please don't assume he has been neglected. You really should look for his owner before saying you rescued him. Please!! Think this way.....he could be your pet who got out. Would you want someone to just keep him?

Happy to hear this little one has a home with someone who is clearly taking good care of him. To the OP: Welcome to YT .... I apologize for not reading thoroughly.

| ![]() Hi everyone, I'm happy to report Mr. Pooch, ate a full breakfast of Science Diet dry and Royal Canin can Yorkie loaf. But the greatest news that I have, is that my roommate (Mr. 96yr. old healthy Dad-he's stilling driving and has a lady friend) is warming up to Mr. Pooch. While I was doing the dishes Pooch was in the room with Dad while he read the paper, and Dad said that he liked Mr. Pooch. Coming from my Dad whom I sometimes call Scrooge, is the best compliment ever. Everyone, my heart beams with joy from all your wonderful messages and encouragement. I'm awaiting my neighbor to see if we can do a picture and then get it uploaded. Have, a great day, Mr. Ed, Mr. pooch and Dad |

| ![]() but Lady Jane actually is correct there is no way in knowing if the person that easily handed this pup over is the original or rightful owner, in situations like this it is probably not a bad idea to double check ownership. if the pup came from a bon a fide rescue like Yorkie Haven you would know they would have done this, but from some gal on the street your just don't know. Until Linda posted this questions i never thought about it that way but her question made me think that she was questioning more about where the gal that handed him over got the dog as opposed to where Ed did

| ![]() Don't ever ever ever let Mr Pooch outside alone---not even for three seconds. Coyotes are clever and stealthy and have been know to observe their target and it's habits and are just waiting for that moment target steps out door and to grab it. Birds of prey do the same thing; you must be ever-vigilant ground level and also look to the sky. Piper dashed out on me just the other morning; it was snowing like crazy (she's not keen on the heavy, wet stuff) and I didn't figure on her split second sprint straight to the middle of the street and then disappearing among houses and cars and bushes and the dang snow and I couldn't see cuz my glasses were all wet...I managed to grab her when her busy little beak got the better of her (thank goodness). No kidding, these little ones are not unlike hyper-active, curious, mobile toddlers; can't trust 'em, can't take your eyes off em, and you'll never love anything like you do these guys!! |
