I'm sorry that you have family members who are suggesting otherwise. | |

Want to know what I would do, if I were you? Honestly, I'd contact or go to my Vet's office and tell them what's going on here -- I'd ask if there was any type of medication they could dispense to you so that you coul (sadly/tragically) basically "overdose" your dog easily, smoothly, safely while at home. I do not know that there *is* such a med that they could recommend and dispense to you...but it's what I'd be asking about if it were me in this sad situation. Another thing I'd be considering if it were me, is just bringing this sweet doggie to the Vet's office without my family's knowledge, and just taking care of things myself - bc it's the RIGHT THING to do, at the end of the day (for me, that is).

| When our old German Shepherd Dog had to be put down due to systematic organ failure when I was a child, my parents called the vet, and he came to our house while I was at school and put the dog to sleep. I was heartbroken when I got home from school and found out what my parents had done, but it was the right thing to do, and yes, the vet did make a house call to do it. |

I don't believe that it would be easy to overdose him, which is something that I would not consider doing, because of his weight. (He's overweight, most of his weight is in tumors that never affected him until about 6-7 months ago. We did ask our vet, and he said just to wait until they began to grow/spread or hurt him. We contacted him, and he suggested surgery for a younger dog, and death for an older dog.) And as for taking him to the vet, or even having the vet come to us, would be hard to do it behind my family's back. This is unfortunate, but I will do all that I can to keep them from harming him in any way.

| Just remind your family members that if that is really what they feel is right, that you will be waiting with rifle in hand for the day when one of them gets sick. Maybe a little perspective will right what is obviously a rectal/cranial inversion. In the meantime, as long as there wouldn't be legal repercussions, I would set about finding the right vet to come to you and do the right thing. If you could keep it on the down low, you could have the dog put to sleep and just tell them it expired naturally. |

I know of a vet that would do it, so I might give him a call and ask him about it.
