In the meantime, as long as there wouldn't be legal repercussions, I would set about finding the right vet to come to you and do the right thing. If you could keep it on the down low, you could have the dog put to sleep and just tell them it expired naturally.
I very much appreciate the advice, and I'll definitely be taking into perspective and thinking about it.

I know of a vet that would do it, so I might give him a call and ask him about it.
