| Thats not a reputable breeder. Maybe a backyard breeder who ppl think are reputable. Breeders i know if they had a know Genetic problem they would breed that line anymore. And they only breed there females no more then 3x then have them spayed. Last edited by ironmike86; 04-16-2015 at 05:42 PM. |

| Yes, indeed. I have said this over and over.....these rescues ALL have come from breeders. Therein lies the problem...and I am not tagging any breeders in particular but these yorkies have not dropped from the sky.

| That's why I put the word reputable in quotes. People believe some breeders are reputable but usually you find out that they aren't all that ethical despite appearances.

| Same goes for breeders and sadly yorkie breeders just keep on coming breeding messed up dogs and selling to people who have no business owning anything but a stuffed animal. It really is becoming an epidemic for the breed.

| Oh, I know exactly why you did that. I was merely adding to it.

Do people seriously buy these dogs and then abandon them? Is it primarily older individuals who die and no other family member takes the dog? That was always a concern of mine; if something happens to me, what happens to my dog? I made provisions for ZoE because I sold a large home and downsized when my kids went away to college, and I had the funds from the sale to do so. Kind of ironic because four years later I went to work for a law firm that specializes in elder law and trusts, and one of our top five provisions, is providing for your pet's care after you are gone.

Then, another issue is money....pup breaks a leg, has an illness and no one can afford it. Then you have the complaints about difficulty housebreaking. Older people...yes, sometimes. The very worst are the ones where the children say that the parents left the dogs to them but they don't want them. Uh, couldn't you have discussed this with mom before she died so she could make other arrangements? But older people are often sold puppies....many, many seniors want them...WHY do breeders sell puppies to them? That one is beyond my comprehension. Is an 80 year old person likely to live the approximately 15 years the pup will live and be able to care for it? Will the puppy be underfoot and cause the senior to break a leg or hip? UGH...just crazy. OH.....and don't let me forget the one where they must move to a place that does not allow pets. Tell me how ANY of those above are legitimate reasons. Well, let me say that the money issue IS, but what bothers me is I often wonder if breeders take the time to talk with people about the conditions they are likely to come across and how much they will cost. We have to smile and empathize for the sake of the pups, but it is a hard thing to keep you mouth shut when dealing with some this. What I will say is I have more respect for people who contact rescue than those who just dump the poor babies in shelters. Don't get me wrong...there ARE reasons that are legitimate to surrender a pup and I feel terrible for those who must. They truly love their babies and want to do what is best. That is heartwrenching for everyone.

| It's a catch 22. The reasons aren't legitimate, but yet the dog deserves better than to live with such a person that offers those reasons. If they don't only look for homes that allow their dog, if they don't sell/give up every luxury they have to provide for their dog, if they don't care for their dog in it's senior years, then that dog surely is not well-loved and truly a member of a family? It seems the sadness starts before the dog ever gets to a rescue.

Sure the dog deserves better and could have had better in most cases if not for the greed or irresponsibility of the person who decided to bring him/her into this world and then pass them on to someone who was ill prepared. Of course it starts before rescue...that is why there IS rescue. I totally love that some states there are no small dogs to be found. A dream of mine in an idealistic world would be no reason for shelters or rescues at all.
