Just talking purebred yorkies..how do they end up in rescue? Whats the story?

Do people seriously buy these dogs and then abandon them? Is it primarily older individuals who die and no other family member takes the dog? That was always a concern of mine; if something happens to me, what happens to my dog?

I made provisions for ZoE because I sold a large home and downsized when my kids went away to college, and I had the funds from the sale to do so. Kind of ironic because four years later I went to work for a law firm that specializes in elder law and trusts, and one of our top five provisions, is providing for your pet's care after you are gone.
