How Much Orijen Should I Give A 3 Month, 3 Pound Yorkie Daily?

He did a full exam of her, and she got the rest of her shots done, but he didn't collect a stool sample. She no longer has bloody stools when I switch her to a different diet, which was only chicken and rice for two weeks. I put her back on orijen. Her poop is much better now. No more loose stools now or blood. He was right. She was eating way over the required amount for her size.

Thanks for the positive feedback. She is doing much better now. My veterinarian was right. I was giving her way to much orijen for her size. Her poop is solid now, and there's no more blood. Thank God.

Interesting... I'm sorry your baby was sick too. I feed her chicken and rice for two weeks, and afterwards I put her back on orijen but a much smaller amount. I was giving her too much for her size. Now her poop is solid, and the blood is gone. Yeah!

That is not what happens when a puppy over eats.

Thank you. Her poop is solid now with no more blood. A smaller amount of orijen did the trick. My vet was right. Thank God! Yeah!

Thats what he told me, and a smaller amount got rid of the diarrhea. Her stools are solid now, and there no more blood. He said she's a very healthy yorkie.

Or if she had a stomach bug and the bland diet helped her that could have been what helped her. I really don't think to much of a food like the little amount more that you were giving her could do that and if it did I would think that food does not agree with her and could be not good for her body. I personally would not give a food to my dog that just slight bit over what she is supposed to have gave her bloody diarrhea. A lot of puppies get free fed and eat more then the recommended amount and that doesn't give them bloody diarrhea. I'm glad she is better but I do not feel it was the food and if it was I certainly would not continue giving it to her.

How does he not know it was the bland diet you where feeding her that got rid of it?

Wait, you let your vet give shots when she was still having bloody stools?? If yes, I'd find another vet. A dog should never, ever be given any vaccines when having diarrhea or any other health issues. That poor baby .

I don't think your vet is correct in saying it was the "amount" of food causing diarrhea - that's just not how the GI system works.

I went online and googled "can overfeeding cause bloody stools" and I read that their are many serious different reasons for a bloody stool and one of the reasons is overfeeding just as your vet said.

It would take a lot more then what she was over feeding unless the body does not agree with the food

I have to agree. When Buster has tarry stools it was because he had parasites which only could be diagnosed with a fresh stool sample. I was also concerned that your Vet vaccinated when your dog was having issues. I almost lost Buster because the first Vet I had did that when he had kennel cough and it made him very sick where he had to be hospitalized. I know you are looking out for your baby but some Vet's are not as up to date on the newest vaccine protocols and since Yorkies are so tiny they can have adverse reactions easier because many of the vaccines are not dosed for the size of the dog but one dose fits all.
I am glad to hear the stools are firm now. Buster liked his Orijen but it was too rich for him. I now feed him Amicus for small and mini breeds which he loves. I know you are concerned with feeding the best but I found sometimes the best did not agree with Buster and some he just refused to eat the best.

When we go in for shots, my vet ALWAYS does a stool sample FIRST. I'm really surprised this wasn't done prior to the shots being given. I think I would be looking for a new vet as well.
