| I love yorkies, but I won't close my mind off to others. I know for sure the next pet we get, whenever that'll be, will be a Ragdoll cat. Bf grew up with a big ragdoll boy named Pepe and he loved that cat so much. At some point I'd like to own a papillon (those ears!!!) and a Biewer.

| I love my yorkies, but they are not the only breed I have. I have a 13 yr old yellow lab, a 10 yr old yorkie, a 4 yr old yorkie, a 3 yr old maltese, and our newest is a 4 month old silky. We love them all and they all are great pets. I will say, however, that I will not have another dog that sheds. Our lab sheds something terrible. We don't think she will be with us too much longer, but when she passes on we won't get another shedding dog. I think I'm more of a small dog person and will probably stick to the smaller breeds. I've always wondered what a cairn terrier would be like as a pet though.

| Well since I've been out on my own there have been two breeds I researched and brought home. A cocker spaniel and a yorkie. Both hold special places in my heart but I like a few other breeds. I'm dogless right now since having to put Troy to sleep a few months ago. I've looked at other breeds but I'm coming back to owning a yorkie. I think the breed just fits my lifestyle despite my love of a few others . I'm on the waitlist for a yorkie pup for sometime this year, so I guess you can say that at least for the next 20 years yorkie are my breed.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | While my heart is currently occupied by Yorkies, I do have an enormous soft spot for Golden Retriever's, too. I've promised DH that the next dog in our house will be a Golden. (Unless another Yorkie looks at me and says "mama" like all 3 of ours did. Then all bets are off!)

/there was an interesting article an interview of the UKC president, who referred to this breed as the Golden Tumor dog. His viewpoint is that 2 main stud dogs were essentially over used in the breeding programs, and both died young of cancer. Many many GR lines trace back to one of these two sires. If I was better at searching where that link was I would try for you.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Folks I love Yorkies, I will always love them, and they will have a place in my home. But today, there are so many opportunities for folks to research the health concerns of any breed prior to purchase of same. And you truly need to find out this information. National Breed Clubs are a good starting point but not the only one. Canine Health Information Registry CERF OFFA Then there are the various National INstitutes for Health and Research into our canine friends. It is buyer going in with their eyes as wide open as they can be. There are risks to owning any dog. But at least with many purebred dogs from reputable breeders, they should at least inform you of the first 5 or so most common health problems in the breed. If they can't say thanks a lot, but no thanks. When I got Razzle, I went to my trainer for my BRT's, who happened to breed Yorkies, in fact that is how I fell so much in love with the breed. Seeing those wee ones, train with the big dogs, and they were fearless!. And smart, and loving. But still I showed up with my printout of top 10 health problems with Yorkies. And we went through them, one by one by one. While I queried her lines, and her health problems she had had in her lineage. She was very very open to my questions. In one of those problems she said Gail, I have never even heard of that!. It was no 9 or 10 on the list. My long winded point is please please research the breed. There are so many tools at your disposal. And you young folks really know how to use the internet. So use it in a savvy manner.

| I think I will always have a yorkie. But in the last two weeks we lost our Chow Ci Ci..Never liked chows until I got her. But I love the yappy little chihuahuas as well..And we have our Gracie who is our mix baby that we found beside the road a few months back. Supposedly she is lab and Australian Shep mix. Definitely a smart dog!

| I used to be a Brittany guy, I grew up with them and they are great dogs. Now I'm a disabled Veteran, who can't handle bigger dogs any more, almost 16 years ago my wife gave me the option of a Sheltie, or a Yorkie, she used to breed Yorkies. I spent a couple of months researching the 2 breeds, and looking at them. I settled on a Yorkie, and she was my constant companion for 15 years, when she died I started looking for another Yorkie, so I'm a Yorkie guy now. My new puppy is going through training to become my service dog one day. Cheers Quad
