Are Yorkies 'YOUR' breed, or do you want others?
 

In conjunction with the other thread (your Yorkie love story) -- are you for sure going to have ONLY Yorkies from here on out? Or maybe you know you'll always have one but want to try out other breeds? Or will you never have another one again? lol...

I don't really think Yorkies are 'MY' breed. I love them, and when I see them in public, I naturally notice, and think they're adorable, etc. But I can't see myself seeking out another unless the perfect dog comes around.

I got Jackson on a whim. I did no research on breeds, and hardly spent any time trying to find a dog. All I knew was I needed a 'hypoallergenic' dog because my step-dad was allergic. I found Jackson in a newspaper ad and a week later, had him in my arms. We bonded pretty instantly and the rest is history...

But I really think I lucked out with him. He's totally MY kind of dog (and of course, at the time I got him, didn't really have a 'type'), but he's fairly atypical for a Yorkie -- at least the ones I've met. Most I meet are lovely dogs, but not really 'for me'. As I've been more in the dog world, I definitely have a type.

The closest I will get is a Silky Terrier. They're definitely on my 'want' list, as I love the looks, but the more sturdy, and more 'terrier' face, and just a bit more drive. Border Terriers are a HUGE want of mine. I also am in love with Border Collies as I really like a biddable high drive hard working dog. I will probably own one of these 3 before owning a Yorkie again...

I don't think I have a set breed that's mine. I love so many things about so many different breeds. I guess I have a type though. I love smaller in size dogs. I don't want anything that drools all over the place. I don't want any dog with a smushed in nose like a pug, pekegnese, bulldogs... It just seems so uncomfortable to me.

When I was deciding (while watching dog shows) what I wanted, it was between Yorkie and Sciperke (spelling?)..they naturally have no tail and I think that is so crazy looking. lol

But, I will DEFINITELY always have a Yorkie or 2 or 3 in the house. :D

it was until I got a yorkie mix, and I have to say in the future if I get another dog it will most likely be a mix, I know there are varrying opinions on this subject, but for me it will be a mix or a young rescue. Whatever I pick it will probably be mixed with yorkie, no shedding and around 5 - 6 lbs. oh I forgot also could be a parti yorkie with a tail

Great post! :goodpost: I don't think I really have a breed preference :confused:...we have an english bulldog that I think is pretty awesome but that's more of my husband's preferred breed. I have a "type" which is the toy group/ dogs on the smaller side 10 lbs and under. I get my yorkie next Weds so we'll see...if not I'll be looking to get a toy poodle or maltese next after research.

I adore my Yorkies, but I don't think I am a one breed person. When it comes time to say goodbye to my boys, I think it would be easier for me, my heart, to have a different breed for my next dog. Hopefully I won't have to think about it for a long time.

I have always had chihuahuas my whole life, so that is one breed I will always have. I love the toy groups. I've always wanted a long haired dog so that I can brush it and spoil it...so I got a yorkie..my boy is not a lapdog, he does not like me holding him at all...he is so independent..my chihuahua on the other hand, is a Velcro dog...so I have the best of both world. I will definantly always have a yorkie because I so love their terrier personality..and they are so cute. One day I hope to have a Maltese..I love their striking black facial features against the Snow White fur(hair).

I think I'm addicted to the breed. I could see myself getting a Biewer or a Parti Yorkie in the future maybe, but Minnie really made me into yorkiefan_. Until Minnie I had been almost exclusively a large dog person, but Minnie was 200 lbs of dog in an 11lb body. I love the speed, the mischievous attitude, the high energy level, the general curiosity, and the confidence I saw in her. And I see all of that in my new pup Cookie too. They're just the most fun dogs in the world to play with, and that's my #1 priority in a dog. I just love the look of happiness and excitement on Cookie's face when we're out back and she's chasing me around full speed or I'm coming after her. Owning two yorkies has completely changed my views on small dogs. I used to think yorkies were girly barbie dogs, but my two are complete tomboys.

I've had 3 different breeds, 2 yorkies, 1 mutt, and 2 parti poodles. My family had 3 other yorkies before I was born, so we're a yorkie family.

My requirements are small (under 15lbs) and nonshedding.

I absolutely love yorkies and mini parti poodles. I'm also interested in a maltese.
Basically when I decide to get another dog it'll probably be one of those 3. I'll just have to see which dog I fall in love with.

I looked at a lot of the 3 online before I saw Lola, my mom and I fell in love with her right away.

I love almost every breed. Dogs in general steal my heart!
Since I was young I wanted the house full of different breeds, just because every one of them have something special to give.
Soon I'll be moving back to Bonaire and will be able to afford a house with a yard. Then I would really love to have a mastiff! They are my next project. I'm in love with the english mastiff and the dog de bourdeaux. They both are gentle giants and I love that about them.
After the mastiff project I'm sure another breed will join our house :)

I want a DDB sooo bad one day. ONE day though... not any time soon. It kind 'deviates' from my type, as I like fast, agile, slim-type dogs for the most part, but the DDBs are where I will branch out way in the future when I'm maybe more settled, not as 'into' dogs (as in dog sports, dog events, and whatnot), maybe settled with a family, that point in my life I could see me with a big gentle giant. I also know they're more prone to health issues and want to have the financial capability of handling a 'heartbreak' breed. Losing them so young would be difficult.

They are so adorable and what you said about their health is very true!
They will fit perfectly with our family cause I'm not a very active person and that's I'll be looking for plus they are so freeking cute :)
I'll be moving to start working. My plan is to save enough to be able to afford one :)
At my old neighborhood my neighbor had a DDB and a Frenchie! I loved both of them and then is when I fell in love with the breed and mastiff group!

I used to think Yorkies were my breed although I wanted to try others. ..but then there were so many breeds that I fell in love with. Got the probable PBGV boy. Love him to death, but I'm glad he and my mom became bffs. He is a little bit much for me to handle alone at this point in life. I like low drive dogs. Study buddies...

I will have some type of pit, a bull mastiff, a white boxer, and probably a dane someday.

It is more what breeds I will most likely never have because of look and/or temperment of too many within the breed and/or unpredictability as confirmed in a veterinary setting. These would be:
