There is an old saying; Garbage in, Garbage out....... So if the database is sourced from suspect sources, how can they realistically improve on their analysis?

So maybe their science might be the best out there, but judging soley upon what they reported as the BRT, it is very incomplete and in-accurate to say the least. That makes me question, their methodology, their commitment to accuracy, and any and all results they might come up with.

Wow, please email them with your questions and comments, and offer them DNA samples from better BRT stock. In the meantime, I'll get back with info on their Yorkshire Terrier sampling as soon as they tell me something. MARS has a virtual monopoly on canine breed testing, so they have to be held accountable and use the best samples. I hope that their sampling is not purely "ad hoc" and that they have some assurance of breed purity for the DNA samples in their database.

Good question! I had to go back to the Wisdom Panel website and look for myself. For "related breeds," I see Toy Fox Terrier, Black and Tan English Toy Terrier, Havanese, Pekingese, English Toy Spaniel, and Miniature Pinscher. They don't say how they determined their list of related breeds, but my guess is that it is from similarity in their DNA profile, not necessarily in the history of the development of the Yorkshire Terrier Breed. Thanks! But I know lynzy was not serious or anything...she was being her lighthearted self and I appreciated it, as I have appreciated all responses anyone has taken the time to write to me....you have all been so supportive and understanding and it is really appreciated.....I have to confide in you all, I am glad all this is over with.....my goodness, it is soooo emotionally draining....but I really do think it may have also helped Jimmy come to terms with it all....he just wants quiet time with he and I, talking when we want, quiet when we want, and all the hustle and bustle and going and coming and activity and people....MERCY! Now, we can just stand still and listen quietly and let the dust settle.......

As a breeder, of a Rare Breed that is relatively new, I would expect to get some very small % of non BRT if I was to do a Wisdom Panel test - but then again, I doubt very much if they have many BRT's in their database.

I do agree with some other posters here, that the breeder should refrain from mating that particular pair again.

I also think that the breeder given a pup that seemed so far off the breed standard would have DNA'd the parents to make sure that pup was from those parents. If the answer was yes, then well and good, and at least a comment from the breeder to the buyer about how far off standard this puppy was.

It is quite sad to see so many Yorkies that look so far off standard.

What is important is that Minnie is in a good home.

Yes, that is the most important thing. Minnie's owner adores her, so hair or no hair, Minnie a winner! But it is also sad that many of the Yorkies gene pool has been compromised with so many out crossings of Snorkies, Porkies, Shorkies, Morkies and Dorkies and what have you, that will find there way back into the Yorkie breed no doubt by some breeders looking to make a fast buck by crossing their half breeds back to the Yorkie, some that could even fool mother nature My own family owns one of these fabulous fakes, as I wrote about it in my blog. The main thing here is that when you buy a Yorkie you need to educate yourself as to what a fullbred Yorkie should look like, and if it doesn't look like it should, don't take some breeders BS story as face value. Jen loves her baby, but she will always feel the disappointment of not getting what she paid for, especially when she sets her eyes on someones beautiful bred Yorkie when it crosses her path from time to time,....and it will...

To be honest, it looks like they 'roll the dice' with each access as far as "Related Breeds" is concerned. That is the same link where I went, I clicked on the one you posted, but now it says:

IDK, Lynzy. It was tough the first time around and if I have to have a redo, I can't imagine how I'll get thru it all again right now. Was impossibly bad the 1st go 'round. Maybe won't have to though, but Wed. will tell the tale. I'd give anything if I could just not do Wednesday this week.

But back to important things - what in the world with all those different dog breeds on that site Cat just pointed out change so often? How is that possible? It is changing due to each recent test they are running? This part I am just not understanding. This is such an interesting thread I'm fascinated by all ya'll are teaching me about what I should already know!
