| ♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | This thread certainly took a turn....Lynzy I'm so sorry you witnessed that tragedy, that is an image I would not want in my head. I for one do not let my pups out without supervision....my yard is small, with a locked gate...they are NOT out alone, EVER! Call me overprotective, overbearing, crazy yorkie lady....they don't go out without mommy right there. We have hawks and vultures here...spotted one this week looking for dinner...'alright everyone one inside'. The three of them looked at me like I had lost every ounce of good sense I was given. They had been out for all of two minutes...sorry guys you aren't going to be dinner for buddy circling up there...they grumbled and sulked but in they came. The vulture that was circling was massive...easily could have made off with 15lb Orion!

| YT Addict | Lynzy so sorry to hear what a tragedy you went through. Talking about our babies being outside and the dangers. Just yesterday while outside with Gigi we were walking around the yard and I was talking to her about the flowers, (I always ask for her opinion) anyhow I look behind me and she isn't there. I see her about 20 feet away rolling all over something. I run over there and she is rolling all over a dead baby SNAKE... Yikes..... I had to fight her to get it away for her. Thank goodness it was dead. But you never know what is going to turn up in your yard, fenced to not. Gigi is one of those that will eat anything she finds, and I have the emergency vet hospital bills to prove it... Have to have an eye on them at all times.

| I know the sound that lynzy is taking about. I heard it when I was a kid walking to school. A neighborhood dog saw a good friend on the other side of the road and went running out into the road to meet her. He was hit by a car he never saw. I saw it. I heard it. I will never forget it as long as I live. We had some people with two Basset Hounds move in down the road from us last summer. They are now allowing the dogs to roam around unattended. I have found them in my backyard on several occasions. We live outside of town down some distance from the main road. But that road is one of those that people drive very fast on. I know one of these days I am going to have to witness at least one of those dogs die in the road. I have done what I can to try to get these people to realize the danger they are subjecting their dogs to, not to mention the bother they are to me and others in the area. They bark and chase other animals. I don't want to see the poor dogs die in the road. I don't want to hear it. I wish people like this would just not get animals. These people don't have a fenced yard. When they do try to keep the dogs from roaming free they tie them up outside and let them bark for hours at a time. Why do people get animals when they can't care for them properly? |

| I can definitely see both sides of this. I can't help but think that danger is lurking everywhere, but at the same time I want my yorkie to enjoy being a dog chasing birds, eating bugs, etc. At this time, Barney is not allowed outside alone. He is just too little. But when he is older I plan to let him play in the fenced area of our yard. That aside, as long as none of you are doing the deed in front of your yorkies, you're good parents. (just kidding...reference to another thread). |

| I think everyone has the right to raise their dogs as they feel comfortable. As long as they are not abusing their animals it is a personal choice. there will be some who protect their dogs from EVERY danger but still fall victim to something random. If you have a clear conscience and feel you are doing whats best for your dogs thats all that should matter and be respected by everyone. You may not agree with their choice but respect their decision to make what they think is in the best interest of their pet.. |

| Goodf information give in these postings, I must agree, my yorkies never are unattended outside. Too many things that can happen to them in a flash. Thanks and keep your babies safe they depend on you for that.

| If you must let your pups out by themselves, make sure you check your fenced area regularly for all the things I listed...you NEED to inspect your yards and fences daily....in this case a rabbit hole at the fence was the culprit... Until you have had to run down a street in bare feet because you heard the screaming from a block away, and util you've have to crawl underneath a car and pull a small pup who's hind part of body was mush, full of blood and heard the sound coming from his terrified little self until he choked on his own blood cuz all I could do was hold him tight as he died in MY ARMS cuz his owner was too busy screaming instead of helping....then you can tell me that my post is wrong. I'm not telling anyone what to do, I'm telling you what can and does happen daily, the thing that gets me is that I've seen all of these things HERE on YT and still....

I cant imaganine how horrible it was. I have heard that sound one time, I have had a pup die in my arms from kidney failure, I have nurse bailey back to health from a back injury...and I cry every time I read this thread. I was turned down from adopting a dog because I said I would put the pup in a crate/play pen when I wasn't home. I said that because I had a pup shocked when chewing on a light cord.... luckily I was home and pulled the plug in time. The rescue felt it was dangerous to crate a dog. My point... we all have strong feelings on how to care for our children and our dogs. There is not any absolutes ... we must all just do our best for our dogs. There was a time I may have left my dogs outside, now I won't... I change, I learn.. I will do my ever living best. I will also do my best not to judge and it pisses me off when I am judged. Lynzy ... I think you do a great job. I am sooooo sorry you had to go through this pain..but at least that poor little soul had you to hold him. hugs Shinja

Tibbe used to escape out the front door more than he ever got out the back until I trained him not to do that. Watch your front doors as well as the back yard and home alone situations and be certain we trust the people we have watch them when they are not with us. Dogs staying at the vet, groomers, daycare, pet hotels, homes of family and friends, etc., are also at risk. Going over how your dog will be secured and kept safe with their caregiver when you are away from them is also vitally important. Dogs traveling with us must be watched and kept safe. Dogs left in cars are at risk of any number of things. Train your dogs not to come near the open front door and not to leave their front yards for extra safety and be very careful where and with whom we leave them.
