| Why have more than one? Jasper lives with me but my Pom Cora lives with my mum, part of the reason I want another yorkie, is to keep jasper company when I go to work, but to be honest the thought of loosing something so precious I wouldn't be able to bare it, I would need another to love just as much, who lives with me, to be there, if I lost one. Is that a bad reason? So what's your reason for adding another fur baby to the family? Hope they aren't as depressing as my reason lol. Xx |

| we all have different reasons....i have three and mostly because i fell in love with lola and she needed someone to show her love and it pulled my heart strings. keylo because i wanted someone who would play with cedric and they play like crazy and bonded right away. lola even plays a lil bit with them now. so thats our happy three yorkie baby family. i would have lots more if i could afford the vet bill. leaves me wishing my dh was a vet somedays! hehe.

| I understand what you mean, when Riley Is older we would like to get another Yorkie, so he has company when were at work and for us of course . I have noticed that with Yorkies people tend to have at least two! My breeder said that I would be back one day for another one, and I was adamant I would only ever have one......so she as absolutely right!

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I fell in love with Yorkies when I was a young girl and my oldest sister brought a tiny little Yorkie pup home from NY. She needed a pup sitter and that was it I was hooked. I knew that that was the breed for me. I didn't know how expensive they were until I was older and once I talked my DH into it we got out first Yorkes, Quincy almost 11 yrs ago. I had my heart set on getting him a play mate after our larger breed dog passed away and that is when we got our second pup Miah (Mi Mi). Now My heart belongs to four loving, affectionate, spoiled Porky Yorkies. If I though we could afford to care for another one or had the room, I would have another in a minute.

YT 2000 Club Member | We have 3 yorkies! The reason we got Teeka was the heartache I felt when I lost my Tameka to an illness. She did not replace her but filled the void. I still miss her so much.....I, too started thinking about the what ifs of loosing Teeka! I also wanted a companion for Teeka. Max doesn't like to play much and Teeka is a demanding little girl, who wants some one to play or snuggle with all the time. She also does not like to be left alone! So, along came lil Tatiana.....they love to play and chase and share Bully sticks! I do not regret my decision to add a third to the family!

| When we adopted Jada, my husband (who I had to beg to let me get Jada) decided she needed a companion to keep her company while we work. Bogie came into our family exactly 2 months later. They love each other to pieces and have gotten along since day 1. I am like you, I dread if something would happen to either of mine and I think I will always have to be a mommy to a fur baby.

| Dogs are pack animals. They long to stay with their pack. Have you ever seen a dog play in the water, get out, and then run over to their human and shake the water all over them while the human is trying to get away from the water that is going all over the place? What is going on is that the dog has two competing "instincts" or "needs" --- to get the water off of them and to get back to the pack. Their need to get back to the pack is stronger than their desire to shake off the water. So they rejoin the pack and then shake water all over them. For this reason, I don't want my dogs to be alone. I know some dogs do just fine alone, but others have separation anxiety, but normally they do have a need to be with their pack. Another reason I want more than two dogs is that dog-to-dog interaction is good for them. (Yes, I know there are dogs that would much rather be in a one dog house as well as dogs that are dog aggressive and need to be in one-dog households, I'm not talking about those). But for the friendly, well-socialized dog, they really need outlets to be around other dogs. It could be by having more than one dog in the house, or going to dog meet-ups or the dog park, etc. I sometimes wonder if we humans (innocently, without realizing it) try to make them into something too human. When they have access to other dogs, it really allows them to just "be a dog," and participate in and celebrate their own canine world ... an outlet outside of adapting to the human world and back to their roots, so to speak.

| I've been wanting a second dog since... well, since I brought Jackson home 4 years ago!! He is 4 1/2 now and I am just waiting for the right time. We have a very close bond, and do everything together, and I think adding a 2nd will definitely change our routine. I think it will take some getting used to but I really think overall, Jackson will be very happy with a younger sibling in the long run. But at the moment, I'm 'content'. I spend a lot of money on him and only him (I spoil him), it's super easy to bring him back and forth from our house to my dads house (where we like to visit a few times a week), he comes with me to family members houses for visits and holidays, etc, he comes on vacations where he's allowed. It's just... easy. And I know I will complicate my life a bit more by adding another. I am just waiting until I am in my own house/apartment which won't be for another 1-2 years. So yeah, I pretty much have my breed picked out (Border Terrier). I am 95% sure. And that took me long enough! haha. I know I'll know when I'm ready.

Difficult, isn't it?!!? I feel very guilty when I have to go out to somewhere Harry can't go....he's so used to being with me, and all he does is 'wait' while I'm gone - nothing moves, nothing's eaten, he doesn't drink etc. 'til I get home....he literally just waits for my/our return. He's an extremely sociable little boy, especially where other dogs are concerned - ANY dogs which is a bit scarey sometimes! I know he'd love a little brother or sister, but - to tell the truth - I'm really worried about the family dynamic of adding another Littlie.....he's so in to us that my concern would be he'd transfer all his attention to the newbie....and I personally often have to incorporate Harry into the days I care for my (elderly) parents and I'm very unsure how that would work out for us all.... Such a personal, difficult issue - one that I'm sure you'll manage to work out! Good luck! Sally + Harry x Last edited by Harrysmum; 04-19-2013 at 09:18 AM. | |

| originally to give Teegy a wee pal, but now I'm glad I did it for double the kisses and cuddles. Be careful about that reason because if they become best pals and something happens to one the other will go through serious heartache The pure joy I get from the two of them when I walk in the door makes me forget momentarily that Tufty has peed on my floor. |

| I had to beg for 5 years to get my DH to let me have a yorkie which he surprised me with for our anniv. but Guinness is a VERY VERY HYPER yorkie lol so last year we decided we needed a playmate for him and that is when we got Stella... my livingroom is like a race track now but when it comes to TV time Guinness is parked in my lap and Stella is in Ryan's.

And I'm not exactly sure what had me so driven to get a second dog. I guess because I fostered a lot and I always liked having two around. Twice the fun, twice the cuteness, twice the love. It was and is also twice the work, but eventually you just get used to it and it doesn't bother me at all. In some way, I kind of adopted a second dog for the same reason you're thinking about getting a second dog. Clyde really likes having a buddy to play with, but I also like the idea that I will always have one of them with me, even when one of them passes away.

| Got Zoey about a year after Magnus. Mostly b/c my parents and I wanted him to have a companion. Contributed to the fact that we'd feel really guilty any time we'd go out and leave him alone. LOL I'm glad they have each other to keep company even though they seem to just "sleep" whenever no one is home. Which isn't very often. It's not easy taking care of two. Double the cost, time, energy, and sometimes double the havoc! lol Still, I love them both and wouldn't trade them for the world! |
