| Collars and Harnesses Before anyone yells at me I KNOW that small dogs should wear harnesses. That's not my question :-) My question is how many of you have your dog wear a collar too? Obviously the collar would be for the dog tags and NOT for walking. Or do you just attach the dog tags to the harness? I know that you should not let your dog wear the collar or harness all the time due to risks but I live in an apartment and my land lady says she HAS to wear a collar with her dog tag on it at all times. Well she is 16 weeks and I'm not making her wear a collar yet because shes too tiny. I don't even have a dog tag for her yet because I have nothing to attach it to. So do you guys just attach the tags to the harness? I don't really know what to do. *sighs* thanks

| I don't put tags on mine. If we go out of town, I carry his tags in my purse. A collar tangles his hair, so he doesn't wear one even for tags. Would your landlady accept if he were microchipped instead?

| P-Nut doesn't wear a collar. He's microchipped and his tags are on one of those removable clips, so I can put them on either of his Buddy Belts (harnesses). |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I suggest a Rubit clip to everyone! Rubit Carabiner Dog Tag Clips You'll find a lot of sites that sell them but not every site has all the styles available. Mine don't wear a collar ( I bought fancy rhinestone ones for both ) but we use harnesses & harness clothing when we go out. The rubit makes it a snap to switch from one harness to another.

| Callie wears a collar with her tags on it all the time except when she is taking a bath. To many story's of pups getting out and not having tags on for me. You should get her used to wearing a collar while she is a puppy or she wont tolerate it when she is an adult. In my opinion wearing a harness all the time is equal to wearing a bra all the time but wearing a collar all the time is equal to wearing a necklace all the time.

| I did an internet search and came up with a no tangle collar and no dangle tags that might work well for you if you combined them. Just a thought... Rolled Nylon Dog Collar - Round No-Snag Collar for Long Hair Dog Breeds Quiet Pet Tags: Collar ID Tags, Personalized Dog or Cat Collars

This is similar to the clip we use, but I like that the Rubits are colorful! Oooh, and some have "bling" - looks like I'll be shopping there shortly... Last edited by P-Nut Mom; 02-18-2013 at 12:28 PM. | |

| personally I think all dogs should have a collar with their name and contact phone on them at all times regardless if they are microchiped. Dogs seem to get out when you least expect it. I had my front door blow open that I thought had been shut tight. I was upstairs on my office phone when I discovered that my last yorkie was standing in the middle of the street. Lola escaped my parents fenced in yard under a very small opening in their gate. I am very careful when opening our front door but she has still managed to scoot past me a few times, thankfully treats and toys were close by to get her back in quickly. My sister's yorkie also got out through a hole in my parents fence that we did not know about. Her dog was microchipped with her number and my parents number but the people that found her never thought of checking that. My sister was out of the country when they called so they did not get an answer, even after 4 days of no answer on my sisters phone they did not check about a microchip, the tag would have worked like a charm had my sister thought to put my parents number on it as well. If your dog escapes the fastest way that some one can contact you is by the tag, why spend hours and days looking for a dog that could have been returned home sooner. There are very small collars and very small tags that you can get. Believe me I would prefer not to have her tag hanging on her, but it really is important. I do like that slide on one, and think I will order it, thanks for posting the link

| I am so torn on this subject. Collars and tags have saved many YT members' dogs and made sure that they were returned home quickly when they got out of the house and yard. Tags with name and phone number helped my previous dogs the same way. With my Yorkie boys, I have never put collars because I'm afraid my guys would hurt themselves with the collar. There is the option of breakaway collars, like for cats, but if my boys got out of the house, they would probably break the collars off on something right away. Our tags can be attached to the D-ring on harnesses, which my boys wear for walking.
