| I looked at the Snow Blue site, and the amount of information just made my head spin. Way way over my concentration level. But I do have a question. Is it still common practice for breeders to destroy babies simply based on their colors? |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | No they do not destroy the puppies. They put them up for adoption with strict pet neuter.

| It is not as common for breeders to destroy babies.....but unfortunately, I do know of some very exclusive breeding facilities that do NOT want that color gene fault to be associated with their line of dogs.....so they will quietly cull those babies...not anywhere on the volume that was once very common place, but it is still done by some. It isnt only the color gene that can get babies culled by breeders so inclined to keep "their reputations intact and absolutely perfect"............ |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | That is truly sad. They could just fix them and even send them to a a shelter. Makes me sad

| When I first started learning and researching breeding and breeding practices, I kept reading about "culling"....I thought for sure I was loosing my mind and had not understood what the meaning of "culling" was....I was shockerd and amazed when I actually began to speak with people that do this almost second nature....just like breeders that believe in survival of the fittest principle, and if there is a fading baby in a litter, they will do nothing to actually save that baby, allowing nature to take its course....I just can not do that, especially when I honestly believe that baby is a product of MY intentions....if I have screwed something up and misjudged or misinterpreted something, and now this poor little unfortunate soul is struggling to survive, I believe I have to get in there and fight for /with that baby, because that baby would not be in the fight/struggle of its life, if it was not for me. If it is Gods will that baby goes back to Him, then He will take it regardless of what I do....but He expects me to do SOMETHING...... |

| I've been reading about the Biewers & partis & read the Snow Blue website as well. This whole thing sounds alot like the deal with Cocker Spaniels. It was quite a while before the AKC accepted parti cockers. Now there are 3 categories, but they are ALL still cockers. Same thing here. They are all yorkies, period. This Biewer fellow wanted AKC recognition for a color variation, they didn't want to do it, therefore he went down the road of trying to market them as a new breed, which they really aren't. Maybe at some time down the road this whole tri-color acceptance thing will develop to the point where the cocker spaniel is now as far as the AKC is concerned. Seems like the biggest problem is the lack of genetic variation withing the strictly Biewer lines and the need to breed out to standard yorkies to keep the health factors sound. Those that insist on breeding Biewer to Biewer are risking more health issues. Or at least that's how i read it.
