I couldn't no way do anything like 'culling' but I've heard...to my horror...it has been/is still being routinely done.
I seem to recall reading somewhere sometime
that "God helps those who help themselves" so my feeling is if I won't do anything, why would/should He? I don't wait around, and I expect Him NOT to either...I have NEVER been disappointed by my expectation.
