| The way I understand it is parti yorkies just have to be tricolored and can occur accidentally in nature like a chocolate or blue born, but a biewer is bred through a specific bloodline and has a specific pattern to the markings, like a King Charles Cavalier Blenheim. Does that sum it up accurately?

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Basic overview The Biewer, named after the founder, originated in Germany in the mid 80's. Over the years they are selectively bred and a standard was set. The standard is similar to the Yorkie, but calls for specific color placement. White paws, tip of the tail, symetrical coloring on the head and face, etc and no docking of tail. It has been recognized as a separate breed by some organization and can be shown in some venues. Not in the AKC Partis are tri-colored Yorkies. They can be registered with but not shown in AKC. Can be shown in some other venues. There is no standard set for them that allows for the non-standard coloring, but typically, most Parti breeders follow the YT standard with color as the exception. Biewer info can be found here... Biewer Breed Club of America You can get more info on the Parti Yorkie here... Yorkshire Terrier - PARTI YORKSHIRE TERRIER CLUB

| I have a traditional Yorkie and a parti Yorkie and love them both the same. Each has their own personality and I like the variety. Since I only have them for pets and not showing them, then I don't see what the difference is - although because Izzy's tail was not docked (per my request - no need or sense to cut her tail) and her ears flop over, a lot of people think she is a Shih Tzu mix.

| I love them all so much but I do hope we don't lose the standard. I don't for a minute think we lose the standard in either of the colors we are talking about if the standard is taken into consideration and breeding to improve the breed. One doesn't have to be a show breeder, so few are but I think we are obligated to these little ones to keep the standard in tack. Hard job as it might be. Yorkies on here are lovely but so many I run into in my daily outings don't even look like the breed and that is where my concern is coming from more and more. Back to Parti Yorkies

| I just got back from shopping and should not have been rushing off when I posted. Of course the beautiful blue and gold coat of silk is a big part of the standard. I am a body person, tiny ears, straight back, correct head so color is usually the last thing I think of but very important to the standard. I have a friend who breeds the Shih Tzu breed and she says the first thing they ask about is not health, coat or any parts of the body but color. Hey, that would be a great poll. What part most important to you all.
