| Is your Yorkie shy? I got lots of questions tonight hahah Ok... Winnie is very friendly with DH and I, and she's always in a very good mood, but as soon as someone other then us tries to pay attention to her she will walk backwards away from them. Sometimes she will slowly come up to them and sniff their hands but if they try to get closer she's gone. Although the minute they turn around she's right at their heels. Is this a common thing. I find it strange because when we went to get her she let me take her in my arms and was licking me right away. Oh and if I"m holding her and someone tries to pet her she growls and nips a little bit. She's never bit anyone but i'd like to stop this before she does.

| I think this would indicate she is not getting out enough. I mean she needs more socialization. If she sees strangers infrequently then it will be a scary situation for her. It might help if you have new people sit down or get down to her level. They won't be as threatening to her then. Give her time to build some trust. It sounds like she is curious but a bit scared. I think there are articles in the library here on YT about how to socialize your puppy. My Gracie loves everyone and always has. She feels that anyone who comes in the door has come to see her personally. |

| I agree with you completely about socializing, but we are out everyday, and always there are always a ton of ppl around. We go to the dog park on a regular basis and have done classes at petsmart to help socialize her, and she was fine with everyone there and If i give someone a treat to give her she will warm up to them slowly. Maybe she just doesn't like strangers. I will definatly look at that info you gave me though. Thanx!

| Tibbe spent the first 9 mos. of his life in a cage all alone outside but once I got him, as I was largely homebound due to a physical condition, he had very little socialization. But he LOVES people & other dogs - never has met a stranger. He will go to anyone & any dog. He loves attention & is glad to be the center attraction in any setting. My Jilly who was well-socialized, was quite shy & hated other dogs. Go figure.

| Tatiana is not shy. She's stand-offish. The only person she loves is me. She's even stand-offish with my husband. I think it's her personality. She's a one-person dog. It's her attachment style. |

| My dogs back away from people but I believe it is because they have learned to be careful of people's big feet. Now if the person bends down, my dogs are all over them but stand up and lean towards them and they back right up. So if that's what she is doing, I think she's smart! If when people bend down, she still backs away then I would get her out and about more. I would bring yummy treats and when people stop and ask if they can pet your dog, say "would you mind giving her a treat?" Hope that helps! |

| Jaeger might bark at the door, but the minute the person is in the house, he is all over them. he had never met a person, dog or cat he didn't like. He was not socialized outside of his letter until we got them so we made sure he got outside and met a bazillion people as soon as we could. |

| Yep, Jackson is a shy sweet boy. He's not usually frightened of people, just more aloof, and uninterested in making new friends or greeting every new person. I use the cue "go say hi" if I want him to approach somebody (or they want him to approach them rather) and he is usually happy to oblige and let the person give a quick pat on the head or scratch under the chin. But this took a bit of work. He used to back away a lot, and seem scared, and shy away... but at about 1.5 years old, this changed. I did a lot of socializing, carrying around treats and bringing him out in public and around children. I also would take him to my cousins little league games and such, where the kids could give him some treats. He also loves performing his tricks for people, it really boosts his confidence! I've seen him turn from a REALLY shy dog to more of a confident guy, but he still has a shy demeanor to him, which I've come to really love!

| Heck no my Luci is not shy one bit. If a worker come's to the house she does not even bark at them , but my 2 chis do. She is all over everyone. I think she likes my neighbor's better than me if she hear's there door open to come out side she will sit at the door and whine just to go out and say hi to them. Aren't they just adorable? | My Belle is very shy. She likes to go out to parks and shopping, but prefers to watch other dogs and people from a safe distance. I've attended training classes with her, and tried my best to socialize her. She just isn't a very social dog. She loves her family, and our other dogs, but not "strangers". I've come to realize that it's just the way she is, and it's fine with me.
