Lol, it sounds like you have a little Mer-dini on your hands !! As scarry as it may sound I would forget about the break away cat collar a go back to the dog collar. Then do the same thing you did with the cat collar. It's going to take some time for her to get use to wearing it, but she will.

| ![]() That's another great reason to keep a tag and collar on your dog in case there is ever a weather emergency.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | ![]() No, KS doesn't even have a collar. We keep her ID on her harness. She is microchipped. I need to see about getting her a collar.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | ![]() no collars in the house, because I caught Miss Prada chewing on Chanel's tags one day, collars only for tags when they go out, All the dogs in my house are microchiped, right now all 11 counting the 6 little meatballs are. Only my son's Alaskan Malamute, wears a collar 24/7 because he likes to escape fromt he yard from time to time and take walks, the town animal officer is my son's friend, and if he gets him before us, he just brings him home... hugs, Last edited by carmen in nj; 04-04-2012 at 04:47 AM. |

| ![]() I would recomend wearing collars at all times. My first yorkie got out of the house and it was hours before we knew she was gone. She did not have a collar on and we never got her back. Both of my dogs now wear collars 24/7. |

| ![]() I'm coming late to this party but I promised myself that I would always share my story when the collar question comes up. My 5 dogs have breakaway collars to hold their tags when we take them out of the house or there is a tornado watch in effect. In the house they do not wear anything and here is why: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/general-yorkshire-terrier-discussion/155756-thank-god-cpr.html I remember that Magansmomma had all three of hers run out an open gate and got them back within minutes because they were wearing their tags so there are two trains of thought. I understand her feelings about always having the collars on and she certainly understands my opposite feelings. |

My daughter's 4 lb Chihuahua wore a bell and her toenail got caught in it too. It happened right in front of me so I took her toenail and the bell off right away. My dogs wear collars with only one tag that has their rabies information, chip number, my number, and HomeAgain's number. I was thinking of switching to a flush mounted dog ID tag, but I haven't yet because I like the decorative tags that I have on their collars. | |

| ![]() I couldn't relay the whole horror of Adie's story I was too upset. Adie was completely limp by the time Dh got to the dogs. He couldn't get the two dogs apart. Skeeter's mouth was wide open and his top teeth were on top of her head and his bottom teeth were wedged in under her collar. Dh had to race and get scissors to cut her collar but couldn't get them under it - that's how tight it was. Plus Skeeter was going nuts trying to get loose. Dh had to pull the collar tighter to get the scissors to fit. When he finally got the collar cut Adie just collapsed. She ended up with punctures in the skin on top of her head and under her chin. She had an open fontenel and it was lucky Skeeter didn't puncture that! His little claws had scratched her face too. We are lucky her tracea didn't stick together either or no amount of rescue breaths would help. To this day Dh will not talk about what happened. It was really horrible for him. I can only imagine how he felt holding that precious little body. So no, no collars. |

| ![]() Although they do happen collar accidents are pretty rare. What happens if your phone number changed?

| ![]() Also, a tattoo is not something most people look for. The first thing I look for when I see a stray dog is if it has a collar on - usually collar means that they have an owner (that's my first thought anyways) and non-collars mean stray. At least when most people see a loose dog, those are the first thoughts. And we've returned lots of dogs thru the years, due to collars.

| ![]() Chewie is microchipped and always wears his collar and ID tag (his name and my phone number, although I need to update it and add more numbers and maybe microchip info). I always have him on harness and leash when we're outside. HOWEVER, the little bugger has slipped out a couple times. We've always seen him slip out and were able to follow and catch him right away, but he's quick and loves to take advantage of his freedom. His collar only comes off for baths. When we go out, his other tags (city license, rabies, and microchip) are clipped on the end of the leash.
