I do have a dog actually, she is a 16 year old Shih-Tzu. Surprisingly, she was purchased as a gift for my brother and I from a pet store in NJ and has not had any problems at all, still very active for such an old dog. If I had known the puppy mill information I know now, I would have frowned upon my mother purchasing her from there. I will have to ask my vet about local breeders to see if he recommends any. Seems like a good idea, thanks!

I would like to chime in again, this time I have two comments and food for thought.

First, the girl that posted about her dog that she purchased from Set did not follow the rules of the Sick and Injured Forum which are you need to follow up and put closure to your post in that area of YT. So now a year later we are left to question what happened when she said she was following up with further care. IMO, her endorsement is not fully credible because her dog had an issue and now she claims otherwise. So as much as you might not like there were words exchanged it was something that needed to be brought into the open.

My second point to you is this; you live on the East coast~NY to be exact. There are so many good breeders that you can deal with in your backyard. Why take a chance of a breeder that is all the way in TX or for that matter out of driving range for your puppy. A contract really is only good if you are able to legally enforce it and I have seen plenty of people not have legal leverage to continue a battle when they had a sick dog. Why chance it, when you can stay within driving distance? A local breeder will want to have satisfied local customers vs someone thousands of miles away. If you were to try to enforce a contract it would be in the state of the dog's purchase and your burden. So I say stick close to home and stay away from having a dog shipped from out of state.

I'm so glad that you are researching and learning all that you can regarding a puppy purchase. You would be amazed how many people buy animals on as impulse later having buyers remorse. Keep looking and you will find the best fit for you.

Thank you! I understand it had to be brought into the open, I just feel like the way in which it was done was not necessarily appropriate (I am not one for passive agression). With that being said, I have actually emailed about 10-15 breeders from the East Coast from the YTCA referral list, including HiHopes Yorkies which I am very interested in. This thread was just created because I couldn't find as much information on the SET Yorkies kennel as I could on the other ones I was researching. I am simply doing my research and compiling a list of options before I decide for sure. Thank you all for your concern!

The rule is clearly stated at the top of the S and I forum. I'm not sure why you are getting all defensive about this matter. I was just trying to clear up why others questioned you today...that is all.

Hello, welcome to YT. We live about 12 miles from Manhattan. My daughter wanted a Yorkie and after her research found 2 breeders. One had a 5 1/2 month PUP. We took the 1-2 hour ride. The breeder was a nice lady, clean enviorment, other pups well take care of. We fell in love 30 seconds after holding him. He is 9 months old now. We would never purchase a pup without seeing where he came from. We also paid more than some of the prices mentioned. Well worth it though.

Good luck at look around, you should be able to find a breeder.

OMGoodness, I have not purchased a pup from SET but wanted to say how sorry I am that your thread was hijacked by rudeness. I believe the reason ( shorebound ) came on is because I had sent her a PM that most likely alerted her via email & I just want to clarify that to those who think otherwise. Also shorebound has stated that her other dog injured the yorkie's leg/knee so the pup does not have LP. Now let's move on so the OP can get the answers she came here for.

Since most of the YTCA breeders aren't in the "business" of selling dogs, they are breeding to preserve and improve the breed; you might have to get a little more assertive if you want one of the pups. I recommend calling and getting to know about their breeding program and why they became a breeder. Also, establishing a relationship is invaluable, they can help you decide if a Yorkie is indeed the right type of dog at this point in your life and they also can advise you to the care of your dog. If you are asking how did I ever know a connection, I did not know anything about this thread & had sent her a PM before this thread was ever started about a subject not relative to this thread in any way so I do hope that you are not accusing me of anything here. The way I see it she was not the one who started the rudeness here but simply responded to it. I had Nothing to do with getting anyone banned.
