Donating YT 4000 Club Member | I would say under any circumstance I would bring a baby home that is less than 12 weeks, are you home all day and all night? this puppy needs around the clock care toy dogs are NOT ready to leave their mama at 7 weeks my puppies are not even fully wean from mama yet.. so sad that money is more important to this breeder than the health of the babies... |

| just research this at the wk age and find all the stuff YT tells you too do to take proper care of the fur baby at that wk range. they dont support that age of adoption but if the breeder is leaving this as a last option there are sooooo many with wonderful advice to offer here.

| Thanks for all the suggestions. I just talked to our vet and she said that it'll be ok to take her home, as long as she is weaned (which she is). We have an appointment tomorrow to see the vet to get her all checked out. I'll post pics when we bring her home. |

| Most vets will agree that 8 weeks is ok but that is a general answer and its an ok age for bigger dogs but any one who does research into the small dog breeds will find out 8 weeks is just not good. They are still learning important things from there mothers. You still have not answered if you will be able to have someone with this pup all of the time because if you can't it could very much risk your pups life.

| Yes. I will be home with the puppy all day everyday. I would never bring a puppy home to just leave it there by itself. I trust our vet's judgement. She is my sister-in-law and she would never advise us that it would be ok if it really wasn't. I understand that it would be better for the puppy's behavioral development, for it to stay with the mother til at least 10 weeks. I'd rather have been able to wait til then to take her home, but not much I can do about that now. So I'm gonna do whatever I can to make sure she is properly taken care of. Yes I know about hypoglycemia and I know how dangerous it is, I've done enough research to prepare myself. And if I'm ever concerned about anything, I can just give my sister-in-law a call. |

When I was helping my exes mom find a reputable shih tzu breeder, we found a show breeder in PA. Went to her house, she was on the Akc website, etc. I told his mom: if the breeder suggests for any reason we can take Lacey earlier than 12 weeks we say no, we want her at 12 weeks. Well, when we told the breeder she was hysterical laughing. She said 12 weeks is the MINIMUM. It may be longer if she deems necessary for the pup. Again, I know you are not getting your baby from a breeder, per say, and I'm very glad you came here for advice. I'm just so curious why she is pushing to get the pup gone. It makes me nervous that the pup is showing signs of being sick or something and doesn't want you to change tour mind. So I wish you luck. Please come back to post pics and ask questions if you need help!

| I got my puppy young too! I actually prefer to get a puppy as soon as it is weaned to kibble and then train it myself. Sounds like you've got a good plan in place with the vet check right away, and being home to feed around the clock at regularly scheduled intervals. Congratulations on your new puppy! Do you have a name picked out yet?

I was wondering what you think is the best food for yorkies? I've been doing research and the lady at the pet supply store said EVO is a good brand, but I read that it might be too much protein for them. | |

| I can not stress enough how much this baby needs to be with the Mother at least for 12 weeks. The Mother teaches them so much and if you bring this baby home before 12 weeks the baby will not have that advantage. I hope all works out for you

| Is it only for behavioral benefits for it to be with it's mother till 12 weeks?? Because that seems to be what everyone is saying. |
